Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First, let me say thanks for all of the responses on my other posts, and thanks in advance for what I expect will be valuable insight to what I'm about to post. So, I've been looking for a 996 for a couple of months. I've been fairly focused on a specific model and perhaps I've found it. I've not had the PPI done yet, but the seller is being agreeable in making that happen. The car is in SoCal, I'm in NorCal, so I haven't even seen or driven it yet. All that said, the price sounds a little high to me and I thought I'd get some feedback from the experts. I'm looking at: 2000 Cabriolet forest green/tan interior NOT full leather manual 70k miles no wrecks 2nd owner is selling garage kept RMS completed by dealer brakes and rotors at 60k Service records include a reseal of cam shaft covers and intermediate shaft seal...is that receipt speak for an IMS replacement? Car looks to be in great shape. Price? Let me know what you all think! Again, thanks, and maybe this will be the one...

POST 2Original post

I am in SoCal (zip 92592) and if it is nearby, will gladly swing by to give it a look-see

That's super-generous. I'll PM you...

POST 4Original post

Shaft seal is probably not the LN Engineering updated replacement bearing. Good luck!

You can determine that with the date on the receipt. IMS bearing was not available until last year or two. Do a search for Flat 6 innovation IMS bearing and you will know when the first batch went out into mass market.

POST 6Original post

If for sale at a dealer, probaby in the $24 - $27 range depending on condition/mechanical/options. Private deal subtract $3k. Thats my best guess anyway.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, the shaft seal was in 2007, done at a Porsche dealer. So it looks like no IMS work done. You guys are great. Any other thoughts?

POST 9Original post

$25k is probably right. I am not a green fan so I wouldn't pay $20k for it but we are all different.
