I recommend doing the tuning after a Sport catalytic converter and air intake is added, so the car runs properly and makes most possible power.

Suggestion

Where a custom flash might be necessary is if the exhaust system (and this mod is accompanied by intake system changes) is sufficiently different that flow through the engine is different enough that the stock flash's assumptions about variable valve timing, variable valve lift, intake resonance control, things like this, need to be tweaked to derive max.

I have Fabspeed mufflers and from my experience with motorcycles, anytime that you mess around with an exhaust, it would probably be a good idea to do something about your fuel mapping and ignition timing it you want your engine to run correctly.

Suggestion

Since you are just running mufflers, you don't really need to Tune the ECU at this point, since its not a major change and you will not notice much of a power increase.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys, I am driving an '01 C4... I have Fabspeed mufflers and from my experience with motorcycles, anytime that you mess around with an exhaust, it would probably be a good idea to do something about your fuel mapping and ignition timing it you want your engine to run correctly. I've done a little research and came across this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-996-...ht_1823wt_1144 Has anyone had any experience with doing an OBD II ecu flash? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Your experience matches mine but it is like mine way out of date. Modern engines with their electronic engine management, fueling, sparking, etc. are quite able to adapt to a pretty amazing set of conditions. For just a muffler swap unlikely any tweaking of the fuel maps/timing maps are necessary. The range of adaptation that exists will suffice. The DME will adapt and fueling will be ok. Timing runs as advanced as it can run which is often just short of producing detonation. Where a custom flash might be necessary is if the exhaust system (and this mod is accompanied by intake system changes) is sufficiently different that flow through the engine is different enough that the stock flash's assumptions about variable valve timing, variable valve lift, intake resonance control, things like this, need to be tweaked to derive max. benefit from the other mods. What you can do is of course consult with the exhaust (muffler) maker and see what if any recommendations it has. If any are required one would have to believe the product's maker would be willing to share this so max. benefit form this add-on in to be had by the customer. Additionally, you can seek out a shop that can test the air/fuel ratios (4-gas exhaust analyzer?) so see if the engine's DME needs tweaking. Sincerely, Macster.

Hi guys, we do recommend doing an ECU tune after multiple upgrades are added to car, so it makes the proper fuel and air changes for the exhaust and intake upgrades. It will also allow the car to run at its full potential, since it will be tuned to your specific setup and needs. Since you are just running mufflers, you don't really need to Tune the ECU at this point, since its not a major change and you will not notice much of a power increase. I recommend doing the tuning after a Sport catalytic converter and air intake is added, so the car runs properly and makes most possible power. Let me know if you have any questions and PM me for special member ECU Tuning pricing for your cars. We are full service EVOMSit ECU Tuning partner and we recommend their tuning for all applications.
