I agree the battery was a little down and I am sure once the rest of the car is back together she will not have the slow start....that said dont be afraid to drive it, many builders have rituals..I know of a couple who make it a point to hit redline by the end of the driveway after a build...also since you didnt do the rings I assume you wont have to seat those....and if you run with open exhaust everyone else can enjoy your success

Shortly after screwing on all the body parts and taking the car for a test drive, it began pumping oil into the coolant, and mixing a little coolant into the oil.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

My car started right up after rebuild. There was no maf or lambdas on Dougs car, that might cause the longer starting. Doug what was done to your engine?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Replaced a cracked head, new bearings, rings, chains/guides/tensioners. I think on a fresh battery (or better connection with the jumper cables) and the MAF on, it would have started up faster. But the fuel rail and lines were dry, so that might have had an impact as well.

POST 7Original post

Good for you Doug, hope the rebuild goes for many trouble free miles. How many miles before your engine rebuild occurred?

POST 9Original post

Great news Doug, been a long time in coming. I remember the first start-up after fixing my cracked head, very satisfying.

POST 11Original post

Good job Doug.... happy for you. Many more miles of enjoyment.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys! Now I need to finishing putting it back together so that I can drive it...

If you prime the fuel rails by activating the fuelpump first it should start as quick as a normal start.

Congratulation for the hard work and the positive outcome

POST 18Original post

oh she sounds mean and nasty with open pipes- PS. do you know how you got the cracked head? overheat?

POST 19Original post

Excellent... that first start up is soo nerve racking isn't it? I always say, "Here comes the moment of truth".

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well this has been quite an experience. Shortly after screwing on all the body parts and taking the car for a test drive, it began pumping oil into the coolant, and mixing a little coolant into the oil. So either the cracked head I found wasn't the problem or I did something really stupid when I put the engine back together. Having little time to tear the engine down and do a failure analysis, I bought a 53K mile engine off eBay. More later...

POST 22Original post

Well I am really sad to hear that!! Any idea of where the problem is? I am feeling pretty lucky right now, a little over 12,000 miles on my engine since I fixed the cracked head. I know that Tim Sehorn found out that both his heads were cracked, cylinders 1 and 6. Maybe the best thing to put in the other engine and then when you have time tear the rebuilt down and see if you can find the problem.

POST 23Original post

Oh man that sucks. I hope it turns out to be something simple. I'm still impressed, but I know that doesn't really help.
