Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I need some type of program that allows me to look on CL faster than just checking each city by city.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was looking originally for a boxster s and they were in the mid teens for an 00 and 01-04 were closer to the higher teens. So I decided to look at a 996 and just add a few more grand to and then I noticed this car on CL. What do you guys think about it, for the price and year doesn't look to be too bad.

Pictures are too grainy to form any opinion. As for options, it has the comfort package (memory seats is the key on that one) but not Bose (which probably means it does not have Bi-xenon headlights) and I think the 18" Sport Design wheels.
That is a heck of a low price, but without a pre-purchase inspection and actual eyes of somebody you trust on it, there is just no way to form an opinion.
Here's your first step: contact the owner and ask some general questions such as how long has he had the car and where does he get it serviced. If he has solid answers and volunteers more detail then it might be worth taking a closer look. If he is evasive and just follows his ad's theme of "you better act fast," then walk away fast.
DARN IT!!! Looks like its been sold. Says that he got a deposit from some guy up in San Francisco. That looks like to be a great deal with year and mileage. I've seen the 99 models still in the high $19 to even $24k. I need some type of program that allows me to look on CL faster than just checking each city by city. It was just posted yesterday too...
Halogen headlights with integrated foglights were standard. Bi-xenons were part of the $3,240 Advanced Technics package that also included the CD changer, Bose and the headlight washers. This comes in handy when scouring ads with less than complete information. If you see Bose on the door speakers, the car has bi-xenons.
This is actually a very handy site on standard and optional features. The information matched my window sticker to the penny.

I would start by getting VIN, engine code and dealer where the most recent service was done. Order a CarFax and then call the Porsche dealers in the areas where the car was registered to get history. The MY02 IMS bearing is updatable for +/- $3000. If the motor is a MY06 or later reman, the IMS is too costly to upgrade to make sense.
One of the oldest tricks is to claim a car just sold and then later come back with an oh guess what the buyer backed out and the car's your's.. another variation of the act quick BS.
Keep tabs on the car. It might come back on the market. If it does though, it might be because the buyer backed out when he learned more about the car.
Take your time. Better to lose a couple of good cars and end with a good car than to jump on the 1st car you come upon only to find it is a bad car.
Remember, there's always another car.
Sincerely,
Macster.
It's a good deal but it's not like the best deal of all time. Remember you see other cars with ASKING prices of $23 or $24k but that doesn't mean they don't sell for $20k. Just be patient. There are so many 911's in the LA area. Like stated above check it out before you buy it. Good luck!
I just purchased an 02 C2 cab. I was told it had the Advanced Technics package. I'm not sure what was included in that pkg, but the car has Litronics, the higher end audio CDR-220 (not Bose and no CD changer), headlight washers, heated seats, Comfort seats with memory (mirror tilt in reverse), PSM.
