Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The auctions seem to be more to get people to call (just like Autotrader or the others) since they are usually run with reserve prices that are not met.
Leading evidence: 'Run with reserve prices' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run with reserve prices' (1 discussions). These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I follow the Ebay auctions pretty closely and they generally show why some cars are worth more than others. Obvious things like low mileage, good records, etc... contribute to good auction results. However, this one went for about $6k or $8k more than comparable cars generally end at. What is it that makes this one more desirable? Is the PSM an expensive option? Would appreciate the insight.

Really, 26K is a fair market price for the vehicle. In all, it has low miles, carbon fiber in the interior, some leather upgrades, clean. PSM is standard equipment after 2000 I believe. Black is a desirable color for some folks who aren't concerned about all of the exterior detailing involved...
The only things I can think of is the fact that it's in Illinois and certain combination 996's are harder to find around here and some aren't willing to fly out or have a car shipped from other places.
Black and Black is maybe a combo that some have had harder time finding and is willing to pay a bit more for that combo?
Possible dealer financing option that might've not been available through a private sale luring in additional potential buyers?
These are the only things that come to my mind. I know when I was looking, black on black was the only option I'd consider for myself at that time.
I'd sell mine for that......it has 60K miles and a factory aerokit and another set of wheels.
Actually it seems an okay price, maybe a little high. It has heated, memory, crested seats, but doesn't have 3-spoke steering wheel, full leather, or litronics which are all pricey options. PSM isn't really a huge deal like a Sport Chrono option on the 997's. A dealer is selling it which may garner a higherprice, or they sold it locally and just closed the auction that way.
I appreciate the thoughts. I enjoy following the auction closing prices and it just seems high. I wasn't suggesting it was above "value" but generally Ebay auctions end for less than current "value" and thus do not sell by auction. The auctions seem to be more to get people to call (just like Autotrader or the others) since they are usually run with reserve prices that are not met. By way of comparison this 2000 black/black cab had a high bid of only $17k with similar mileage (48k).

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
Hell, if I can sell my car for what I paid for it back in July of 09 I would in a heartbeat, and my car is in great shape. Given the price paid for the car listed in the OPs first note, I probably could.
Prices are going up at least from Porsche dealers. For coupes
asking
prices are from $24 for a silver with tip up to $53k for a CPO 40th Anniversary model with 12k miles. Yikes - $53k asking...that's crazy talk. When I bought my 996 nearly 2 years ago, there was a 40th I drove with low miles had an asking price of $43k. I liked it better, but the it was about $9k more than the targa I bought with only 13k miles on it. Things are looking good for 996 owners with high quality cars (i.e. full records, low miles, excellent condition).

I have been to this dealer to look at a car when I was looking for my 996. They seem to do a lot of sales, have a good reputation with Better Business Bureau, 100% positive feedback on Ebay too. Also, the car had a 96 on autocheck. When I looked at the Autocheck, it showed these were registered in well to do neighborhoods too. And at 43K, seems well taken care of.
Maybe the buyer did pay a bit more, but he may have been looking for a long time and decided it was decent enough to spend a few grand more and have it for the summer rather than wait around for something that may not come up again as nice as he thinks this one is.
I was in this situation at ont time too as I was running out of patience because I wanted to get one and was tired of waiting. Good luck to him (or her).
It really depends on mechanical condition. I think the price is very reasonable and agree that prices seem to have solidified. I paid more for mine than market, but it just had a $5k service on it and new tires, brakes, clutch etc. Worth spending $5k more than market to get a car that you know has a service history, well taken care of and recent know issues/wear has been taken care of. We all know these cars are very expensive to repair, so my view is pay more, but get more.
Every deal is a unique event between seller and buyer. What works for one person isn't going to work for another.
Case in point: I wouldn't sell mine for that price. However, my car has 25K miles, full factory aerokit; heated, memory, crested, supple leather seats; 3 spoke steering wheel; full leather; litronics; PSM and a bunch of other options.
I bought mine from a P dealer and paid $6000 less than their asking price and got them to CPO it with 48k miles. Dealers always ask above the upper end of retail, but will usually take a couple of grand over wholesale if it has been in their inventory for over 30 days.
It's about inventory turn for them and you can get a good deal if you do your research and are willing to move on to the next deal if the current one doesn't work out.
Happy shopping.
