Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'cat' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cat' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check gas cap as' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I reset the code and went for a short ride, seems okay no recurring CEL and the engine sounds fine.

Just get a durametric or something so that you wont be giving an unsavory dealer a chance to make a story and have you buying $2000 catalytic converters or some other expensive easy to replace items.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Stop by Part source or Crappy tire, buy it read code, return and say it didn't work the way you thought it did, or just keep it.
Send me the luck folks, drove to work today no problems, CEL when I start up for the ride home. Couldn't detect anything wrong but got home and parked it. Dealer can't get me in until Saturday.....
Don't double tap when pumping gas into it. The charcoal filter opening shuts if gas gets in there from the line and gives a check engine light. Just reset and drive on. Rocking and rolling with the car when full or a couple gallons down from it can throw the same cel from what I've found.

My dealer has actually been pretty good. "coincidentally" I'm off to wal mart tonight so I'll look for a reader. It's not gas cap related, I'm actually almost empty and ready for a refill and I also tried opening and closing the cap.
Did you add oil lately? Maybe that the cap is all the way tight. That threw a CEL for me when I first got the car. Now I make sure to take some oil and coat the seal (o-ring) within the cap. Never happened again.
Thanks guys, you're right, it's probably nothing but still......lol...I don't get much drivning time and this is eating a week out of what I DO get!!
The CEL light is steady & the oil has been changed about a month ago. I tried the gas cap as well so it looks like a bit more than that. I couldn't get a reader last night but will try later this week.
We've only got one dealer up here and a couple of indys. I've tried the better known one for a while but ended up back at the dealer. They really are pretty good!
There is no excuse for not having a code reader they are cheap!!!. You are not driving your car because of this?!! If you had a code reader you could "read and erase" and keep on driving. I keep a code reader and a list of codes in the trunk. I'm not gonna spend one extra minute waiting for a mechanic or appointment (that I have to pay $$) to do this for me. Never mind the worry of what is it??
EVERY 996 OWNER SHOULD HAVE A CODE READER. or a durametric if you have $$.
Steady light popped up on my way to work once almost had a coronary for a sec. turned out to be a bad cat. bought a pair off a converted race car and all good for now.
Stop by Part source or Crappy tire, buy it read code, return and say it didn't work the way you thought it did, or just keep it. Depending on what you want, a friend of mine picked up just a cable on line that connects to his iphone, I have a OBD scanner, and a cable that hooks up to my laptop.
0300 code - random misfire. I reset the code and went for a short ride, seems okay no recurring CEL and the engine sounds fine.
Fingers crossed
thanks to you guys who got me off my azz to get a 100.00 engine code reader too!
Not sure the code reader is working right. A P0300 is a general misfire error code but I believe there should be one (or more) specific misfire codes logged as well. One of more P0301 through P0306 for misfires cylinders 1 - 6.
It may be the code reader is incapable of reading more than one error code and it left the specific misfire codes in the DME. Of course if you erase the codes, this is a global erase so all codes, read or not, will be erased.
Sincerely,
Macster.
