Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've got a noise that sounds like it's coming from the area of the instrument cluster but I know that it may be from anywhere. The best way I can describe it is that it sort of sounds like an old speedo cable that failing and since there isn't one I'm grasping for alternatives. It also sort of sounds like a speaker going bad as it's a combination of a rattle and a buzz but I only hear it with the radio turned off. I'm open for other suggestions as to what the likely culprits might be.
So far I've got very few clues. It does seem to be somewhat sensitive to throttle position but pushing in the clutch has no impact. It also seems to start around the low 2K RPM range and does not seem to be dependent on a specific gear. Also, it happens with smooth roads. I can't seem to make it happen reliably yet it is fairly frequent. Since it does seem like throttle position affects it I'm ruling out any of the fans that are in the car. As noted earlier, it does seem to be coming from the dash area or the instrument cluster. As far as the how loud it is, it's just above the level of road noise to a bit more than that but it's never really loud.

Mine's been intermittent for maybe 2 months but now that I'm aware of it and know the approx RPM range I pay more attention. Still haven't been able to isolate any cause/effect. As I mentioned in my follow-up post, I'm just wondering if it might be something that's drivetrain related as I turned a corner today and thought I heard a similar noise.
I'm having problems with diagnosing it as it's so sensitive to throttle position that doing almost anything makes it go away. The only other thing I could think of that was similarly sensitive to throttle was the darn gas filler valve problem, but that noise was the infamous "coke bottle whistle" and I don't think this is the same. Although I may start paying attention to the fuel level as I noticed it today after filling up.
