It was the change in the sound of the car when the fans came on that gave me a clue the fans may not be working.
Leading evidence: 'change in the sound of the car' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'change in the sound of the car' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check any leaks up front thus keeping your wallet' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

A soft kitchen sink brush turned out to be a good tool to get the majority of the stuff off and then I did a good flushing with a blast of the hose.

its an easy job, just do it once in a while...also allows you to check for any leaks up front thus keeping your wallet cleaned out

screens that keep out sand would restrict airflow, and if you cant stop sand you need to clean...you can stop the ciggies with a screen, but then your pictures of the cleaning are a little boring....

The vacuuming may work - but then the narrow size of your adapter may restrict what it pulls out - and may not adequately clean between the A/C condenser and the radiator.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, finally got around to taking the front bumper cover off and doing a good clean of the radiators. (Thanks to all previous posters for tips and the video link) I was shocked at how much crap was in there. You have to swing the condenser out of the way - most of the stuff was between it and the rad (easy - 2 bolts). A soft kitchen sink brush turned out to be a good tool to get the majority of the stuff off and then I did a good flushing with a blast of the hose. Rolling the car up on two blocks of wood was enough clearance to access the lower torque screws. Surprisingly there's just a slight change in engine running temperature ... but the car feels lighter and faster
OK, maybe happier?
I just attempted this with the cover on. My arm was sunburn from a golf tourney and the darn shop vac hose was too big to fit in there properly, but I did get about 40 cig. butts out and a million rocks and leaves. BTW smokers why do you have to flick them out the window it gets in my cars eyes
Tomorrow I will hit it with some light compressed air and then some good Simple Green degreaser then a smaller shop vac from my shop. That should do it!!
It feels good to have it done, wyovino. Now I know I'm good for a hot summer. Just a couple of easy hours in the sun and you can tick it off the 'maintenance' list.
One of the best DIYs you can do to bond with your Porsche. It's one of those things that makes you feel good after seeing how much debris accumulates in there, well done.

Not sure if there is a person that sells them but there are plenty of threads I've seen on DIY screens. Even with the screens though I've heard there can be carnage inside (instead of just dead birds you'll have mutilated bloody birds).
I was thinking about that last night too Dennis but I suspect the thermostat keeps the temp steady ... it's just that the cooling system would be way more efficient now.
Best DIY for nose removal and alot of detail( I could and have F'd up a wet dream) and at 81,000 mine needs done. Remember cannot be basic enough instructions !
Once cleaned out like Billyboy did, it can be kept clean with the leaf blower at each car washing. To get any remaing stuff out, prior to winter hibernation, I duct tape a piece of plastic tubing to my shop vac, and reach in and suck it up while holding a flash/shop light.
As for not a significant change in the car's operating temp, don't forget, about half of the car's cooling come from the oil.
I was just going to mention that. There is still a lot of cooling taking place from the oil just like the air-cooled models. In fact I've heard of GT3 cars finishing races without coolant. Granted it's a different engine but the same principles may apply.
I made my own - i have plenty of threads with URL's - if you can't find 'em I'll post them again.

There are premade ones you can insert from a company in the UK.
You can replace your grills (I did) or mount over the top (others have done this).
But it is highly worth it...I have cleaned stuff out that would be trapped now...big bugs, chunks of wood, tissues, you name it.
While the oil does play a role in removing heat from the hotter areas of the engine ultimately the oil is cooled by the coolant in the oil/water heat exchanger.
These cars have considerable cooling overcapacity and can withstand without any apparent ill-effects considerable trash in and around the radiators. I've cleaned my Boxster's radiators several times and removed a huge amount of trash from in front of the A/C condensors and between the condensor and the radiator.
(In fact at different times I drove my Boxster and Turbo in pretty hot weather for some times (days? weeks?) before I noticed the passenger side radiator fan (in both cars) was not working at all. Neither car exhibited any signs of any heat issues at any time. It was the change in the sound of the car when the fans came on that gave me a clue the fans may not be working. The sound was not real different just subtly so that prompted me to check both fans on both cars were working.)
Anyhow, about the cleanings: The engine coolant temp was ok before and unchanged after. The real benefit is the removal of moisture retaining debris that can lead to corrosion of the A/C condensor and radiator.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Not sure how a leaf blower will help. When you remove the bumper cover you will see why. There are large plastic ducts that direct 100% of the air into the A/C condenser and the radiator. The only way out is the other side of both of these. The radiator acts as a filter...only water and very small particles will pass. A leaf blower will do nothing more than push them further into the corner - no different than driving. It is impossible to blow air on the reverse side of the radiator since it is covered as well...that air is redirected back towards the front wheels & brakes.
The vacuuming may work - but then the narrow size of your adapter may restrict what it pulls out - and may not adequately clean between the A/C condenser and the radiator.
A non-turbo may be different - but I don't see how this would work sufficiently on the turbo w/duct covering.
I can see that as a factor Macster, though I saw no corrosion on mine. Maybe being on the rainy west coast it's less of an issue. Things tend to corrode badly in the colder climes where they use salt on the roads. (... he said from experience)
I was really impressed with the way this car is built when I was in there. Some of those billet aluminum brackets were nice enough to put on my desk!
I had badly rusted screws for the radiator brackets (certainly from this crap) and just replaced one radiator (may be from age or clogging - who's to say?)
Yes, but as I mentioned these are water (coolant) cooled. So the heat the oil picks up in the engine is removed by transferring this heat to the coolant.
Sincerely,
Macster.
I did this job a little over one year ago, and then again just recently.
I was surprised to see how much debris accumulated in just one year.
I consider this an annual maintenance item, but I am daily user that puts 25,000 kilometres per year on.
Nice seeing you at the vintage races by the way Bill. The car looks great.
