Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Our car was in Arizona and the heat must have caused the delamination, now we use a heat shield on the windshield when parked and I'm getting shields for the side windows too.

Suggestion
If for a temporary fix you want to reattach sections, the narrow wood strip in front of the passenger was delaminating and I used a narrow piece of plastic to deposit small amounts of aquarium type silicone adhesive behind it and held in place with blue painters tape to dry.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Some of my wood accent trim around the base of the windshield is lifting, or becoming un-stuck. Any suggestions for a good glue to get it to stay down?
I do not have wood accent trim in either of my cars, so I don't know what you are dealing with. 3M makes a number of specialized trim adhesive products that I've used.
That is a gorgeous interior and very close to ours. Our wood interior delaminated on the dash trim piece like yours, but also the instrument surround, center console, and both arm rests. The dealer stripped those off and painted them, looks ok but we will eventually reinstall some type of wood there.
It looks like your dash trim piece is too far gone to glue back down and needs to be stripped off and replaced. If for a temporary fix you want to reattach sections, the narrow wood strip in front of the passenger was delaminating and I used a narrow piece of plastic to deposit small amounts of aquarium type silicone adhesive behind it and held in place with blue painters tape to dry. This silicone is sold in small tubes at Home Depot and has a strong odor until try, and it remains flexible. So far it has held the narrow wood strip perfectly.

Great suggestions, Thank you! I keep it in the garage most of the time and try to park in the shade when I can. All the rest of the trim is OK, it's just that thin strip around the windshield.
I have the same issue. I am looking to replace it with plastic peel and stick trim until I can buy or afford the actual piece. Check out

I have same interior as you. Eventually the stuff will start to crack unfortunately, replacing it costs a small fortune an is not at all worth it imo. I just removed it, replaced with the simple beige parts and anything not replaceable like that strip near the windshield I am going to have a shop replace it with a strip of leather.
Also - your interior is in great shape! This type of interior is notorious for cracking and peeling. Yours is pretty darn good for the age. Congrats.
There are wood trim restorers in Hemmings, they do lot of British (RR/Bentley) & MB work, Contact them about what is happening and send photos. I'm sure they could repair it for a good price.
OP - Bob H wrote this back in a 3-17-2003 RL post:
I just did this yesterday on my 99 996 cab,
disconnect the battery
drivers side vent, turn **** all the way to the second parking light and pull **** out and hold then with a small screwdriver push the small piece of brass in that is in the round hole when looking up from the bottom and the **** will pop off, now you can get to the torx screw from the round hole exposed now that the **** is off you can remove the one torx screw in there and remove the two torx screws on the side of the vent, remove the 15/16 nut that is under the **** that you removed, pull the vent out of the dash, grasp the headlight switch on the rear of the vent and turn a 1/16 and it will come out, now from the front of the vent work out the outer part of the switch, this is the part that has the markings for low beam, hi beam ect., and unplug it from the dash wiring. the passenger side is easy, just work out the round cover with your fingernails and remove the torx screw inside and the two screws outside.
To remove the defroster trim you must first remove the trim on the left and right side of the windshield pillar, to do so remove the cover plate on the sunvisor bracket and remove the two 4mm allen screws, do not use a srtipped allen wrench as it will tear up the screws, now from the top pull the trim outwards then lift up.
Now remove the cover on the alarm led light in the center of dash by putting a screwdriver in the front of it and pry it up and it pops out. Now pry up the defroster trim starting from the side that touched the ac vent, it will pop up and you can work it by lifting up hard while inching your way towards the center of the windshield, when you get near the alarm led be careful not to break the two tabs of that hold that alarm led cover you removed.
Look at your new defroster trim and you will see all the all the attaching clips that snap in and you will know where they are when you are removing the old trim
Put it all back together in the reverse order.
Have fun, I know I did
Bob
