I'm sure it was the moisture as my towel was a bit too damp when I was wiping down the interior and it has yet to do it again since it dried out.

This randomly happen for 5 minutes so I quickly disconnected the battery (after a quick search to see if there were any gotchas) to save my battery and sanity.

I think I used a folding torx key set similar to this

So I purchased the #31 o-rings with the intention of fixing the issue, but after reconnecting the battery, everything seems fine.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My horn randomly started sounding so I rushed inside the house to grab the keys and frantically hit the lock/unlock button. Nothing. Then I got in the car and started it. Still going. So then hit the horn and it stopped. Got out and it went off again. Hit it and it stopped. This randomly happen for 5 minutes so I quickly disconnected the battery (after a quick search to see if there were any gotchas) to save my battery and sanity.
Prior to this I had just wiped down the interior with a damp rag. I'm wondering if moister got behind the wheel or I hit something on the dash. Any ideas? Thanks!
Have you noticed it honking randomly before, maybe when slowing down? I ask because a common glitch is the spacers between the wheel and the horn sensor wear out. Mine started honking while decelerating, and I received quite a few annoyed looks from other drivers.
Same here. Mine would honk while turning and sometimes right as I parked. One time it happened as I drove by the police station and I got a lot of confused and annoyed looks from some cops.
Airbag frame with fresh rubber grommets is an easy fix.
I fixed mine a couple months ago. Was driving by a road work crew and the horn beeped on those steel plates making me look like a ****.
Anyway, I found this old youtube vid fixing it with O-rings (Harbor Freight kit) and I also applied a little silicon adhesive. An easy DIY saving $150 and working great so far.

So I purchased the #31 o-rings with the intention of fixing the issue, but after reconnecting the battery, everything seems fine. I think maybe a little moister got in there and shorted the circuit.
If the car was locked prior to the alarm sounding, it may have been an overly sensitive internal motion sensor. Yours seems like other things were going on and may have been responsible however.
My car will often alarm if locked with a sun shade on the front dash. As the shade absorbs heat for a while, it moves a bit and sets off the alarm. Posting this for the possibility that others reading this thread may have this happening for them.
I'm dealing with this issue again, and I'm going to try the #31 o-ring fix. Quick question for those that have done this repair, what Torx T30 wrench did you use to remove the two screws behind the steering wheel? I have a 1" T30 bit/driver set but the screw is recessed so far in the hole that this bit does not reach. Also, it doesn't look like there is enough room behind the steering wheel to use a screwdriver type Torx tool.
I see that Lowe's has a 2" long T30 bit...I guess I'll try to measure the depth of the hole to see if this bit will reach.
The car wasn't locked. I'm sure it was the moisture as my towel was a bit too damp when I was wiping down the interior and it has yet to do it again since it dried out.
Thanks. I looked at a folding wrench set but I was leery to go that route because of the many comments about how tight these screws are torqued.
I bought a 2" T30 bit but it doesn't fit. It seems long enough but it does not fit into the screw
(a 2" bit may not actually be long enough to fit a socket wrench adapter once it is fully inserted into the screw). It seems like my steering wheel (2000 C2 w/4 spoke wheel) may have T28 screws? This is odd because I thought they were listed as T30 screws.
I have bought cheap sets from harbor freight, ground the tips nice and flat(Makes the seat better) , heated the shaft up and bent it so its a "L" with an appropriate length..
