Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

I have seen many engines replaced ( although some were welded/repaired) due to those exposed bolt heads on the early Sumps..The later 99 and up engines had the bolt heads protected/recessed...
Leading evidence: 'Repair ) due' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair ) due' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Bottom line is there is no broadly silver bullet, multiple small changes add up to a reasonable place.

So you think perhaps replacing the Sump if and when I get the chance to a newer one?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Might be a dumb question, but I cant tell from first glance without having to raise the car. I backed up into this AirBnB driveway and heard a loud thud like sound. Im pretty sure this is what I scraped
For this reason I would suggest that you "upgrade" that Sump..
The one you have is a very early 99 Sump with the bolt heads exposed...I have seen many engine cases with pieces broken off due to those bolt heads getting caught on a curb like what just happened to your engine carrier. If you had went any further it could have taken a piece of the Sump and case also..
The newer Sumps have the bolt heads recessed for this reason...something to think about...
Absolutely !! I have seen many engines replaced ( although some were welded/repaired) due to those exposed bolt heads on the early Sumps..The later 99 and up engines had the bolt heads protected/recessed...
I would grab one of the newer ones and on the next oil change swap it out...
gotcha. Ill look into it. Hopefully it doesnt cost much for labor and parts. Tho since I work at a Porsche dealership it should be cheaper to do. Ill just need to be careful. I got about 3k miles left to do before my next oil change

. <- long technical thread on oil behavior in a Porsche 996,
There are various theory's about improving oil flow in the 996 engine.
Bottom line is there is no broadly silver bullet, multiple small changes add up to a reasonable place.
This is a deep hole to crawl through I'd take a flashlight.
The plain standard oil sump plate proofs you better against case damage, from there on .. Good Luck.
