Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I put a 3.2 S engine in a 2.7 base Boxster and changed nothing and it ran very very well........
Leading evidence: 'Run very very well' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check with ecudoctor in fl' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Only way to know would be to try having it tested but I understand failure for equipment mods is a bad thing..

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I live in California which doesn't allow ECU reflashes. Will a 3.2 boxster S engine in a 996 with the car's original DME run well, or at least well enough to give passing tailpipe emissions.
Also, hypothetically, could one have another DME, flashed to work with the car/immobilizer/key, to swap back and forth. Thereby having the original DME to pass smog, and another DME optimized for the 3.2.
Could a piggyback ECU be used to tune for the 3.2, leaving the original DME alone?
I am aware of the options of putting a 3.4 in, selling the roller and getting a boxster, moving out of California. I learned about those by using the search bar 😁.
You can put the 3.2 in a 99 and change nothing and it will run well...

Check with ecudoctor in FL. They can do a lot with these dme's. I know they can reprogram to remove the immobilizer so they may be able to clone another dme and allow u to switch them out.
Isn't the flash detection limited to post 2006 cars or even later? the ECU has to track reflash, but it doesn't know what was re-flashed untill later models that give up the Code Checksum?
I was worried about this on my new engine but turns out Oregon just wants the 35 bucks..
But 1996 to 2006 don't report their code hash value is the story I heard,
they have the data for common cars, but I've heard rumors that small run
unique vehicles they just go on the status and version number?
Asking if this is true in CA..
I am just curious..
Only way to know would be to try having it tested but I understand failure for equipment mods is a bad thing..
If Oregon goes that way, my car will go up on stands , engine pickled till it turns 25.. (Then its a special interest vehicle new forever plate and no more smog.. )
Luckily mine passed with the tune on it here.. But despite Oregons green rep, I think they want the 35 bucks..
