Looking through the parts diagrams, it looks like they changed the design of this to a 2-piece later, but my car would require replacing the whole hose assy.

Thats the trick with the smoke test,, those fittings are set up for negative not positive internal pressure..

I removed the throttle body, and at about 5psi the test indicated a leak at the area circled in red.

The fuel line uses a similar connection on my 996.2 C4 and I had to fiddle to get it in without a leak..

All, Im chasing a few issues on my '02 c2 Cab, and did a smoke test looking for vacuum leaks. I removed the throttle body, and at about 5psi the test indicated a leak at the area circled in red. I replaced the AOS (probably the worst DIY job Ive done yet), during which i replaced many of the vacuum related lines, but i cant remember if i replaced this one. The AOS still reads within spec on a manometer test. I tried smearing some silicone o-ring grease on it to see if that helped any, but it did not. Looking through the parts diagrams, it looks like they changed the design of this to a 2-piece later, but my car would require replacing the whole hose assy. Is it safe to assume there shouldnt be any leaks? Is 5 psi too high of pressure to use for this test? Does anyone know if this can be swapped to the 2-piece hose? Thanks in advance for any help!

Thats the trick with the smoke test,, those fittings are set up for negative not positive internal pressure.. (Plus I didn't have a smoke tester.. ) I'd do the old spray lube trick and give it a very light swish with the engine running, it there is a leak it "should" change RPM and if you have your gauge hoolked up to the oil breather you should see no change if the fitting is good. At least thats how I did it..

This is not related to the AOS. that line goes to the brake booster and it has an O-ring that you probably need to replace.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
