Is it just as easy to replace the AC condensor as it is to go through all sorts of trouble shooting?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So. My AC stopped working this summer. My (ex-mechanic) buddy dropped by and recharged the system without checking for missing oil or whatever. The AC worked great for about a day, then lost all cooling. NOW the damn thing keeps blowing fuses when I call for AC. It didn't blow fuses before the new gas (it just wasn't cold) Did I melt something? Is it just as easy to replace the AC condensor as it is to go through all sorts of trouble shooting? Oh! 2002 M6 C2 if it makes any difference.

POST 2Original post

I almost don't want to comment...hmmm...did you open the engine lid and even check if the AC compressor clutch was engaging? Of course now, with possibly no freon in the system, it won't engage because of low (or no) freon level. Suggest you take the car to a local mechanic that is familiar with AC systems to have the whole AC system checked, especially for leaks.

POST 3Original post

Just to add my 2 cents. I experienced 2 of my ac lines pinched around the jack points of the car. You may have a puncture somewhere. I recently recharged a 95 Mercedes wagon and the stuff I bought from O'Reillys has a leak sealer. In fact, I think all of them do now. So if it was charged that way first, and it leaked out, then I'd save the planet and have it serviced.

POST 4Original post

First thing is to put a set of guages in the system, u need to verify whats in there. If the pressures check out then move on. Unplug the compressor. Its a clear rectangular, single wire connector and see if it still blows fuses on command. If it doesnt the compressor is likely bad... if it is bad they usually send bits through out the system so u will need a dryer, expansion valve and a system flush before installing the new compressor. Or u can keep throwing money at it without a diagnosis.

POST 5Original post

cracked my a/c condenser pulling into my driveway one night after I had a few. I would check those as well - use ur eyes and just look in the bumper vents to see if you can see it cracked or black from leaks
