While I am doing that, with the intake manifolds off, I replaced the SAI system because it was throwing a code and would not pass smog inspection.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got my first report back from Speediagnostix and overall the report was good. Two points of concern are Potassium and Silicon. First let me say I've put 6K miles on it last year and it runs great. Good gas mileage and power. Potassium being high could be a blown head gasket. I've also had issues with coolant leaking and determined it to be the reservoir cap. I did a pressure test and it held pretty good. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...lant-leak.html 7 psi drop in 3 hours. No exhaust gases in the coolant. Silicon could be from the air intake, or the cylinder walls. I'm going to drop the pan this summer and scope the cylinders. I'm working through the process as I get to drive the car. If I don't find any bore scoring, the plan is replace the fuel injectors which should address the high fuel dilution value. Thoughts or comments about these findings? Be encouraged folks!

POST 2Original post

Have you re- sealed anything on the engine recently? This sample looks horrendous. Please post the remainder of the report.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17408506

I haven't sealed anything. I did reply back to Carolyn from Speediagnostix, but did not hear from them. Report is attached. Thx Jake!

POST 4Original post

Horrible.. The anti- wear package is shot. Literally 1/2 the additive package has been depleted. The fuel dilution cut the oil, and led to some of this, but at the end of the day I think that you'll find bore scoring, and that can also lead to bore scoring, or bore scoring can lead to fuel intrusion. I haven't seen a report this bad in a long time. Pay no attention to the wear metals, the rest of this story tells everything.

POST 5Original post

Wow! Does anyone have a Speediagnostix report that shows good values? Could be of use for prospective buyers!.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 17455112

I have numerous SD UOA reports with good values, while a few showed a little issue with fuel dilution, oxidation, and viscosity. I already have a good series of reports (6mo or 5k miles) covering the over 33k miles I've put on my 03 4s in 2+ years should a prospective buyer ever want to see. (Never selling though)

POST 7Original post

Would you mind sharing one with your details blocked out. I am in the process of buying a new 996 and most sellers bulk at a borescope but are ok with oil analysis. Knowing what a good analysis looks like could be a good tool.

POST 8Original post

Here's a copy of a report covering 5 samples. Better than looking at this, spend a few $ and join Rennvision on YouTube and watch the multi part video serious specifically on this subject. I think it's a total of 4 hours. Learn from some of the best.

POST 9Original post

Hi and thanks for sharing! I have watched the rennvision report on interrogating the ECU. so I bought a Durametric and have seen how Jake does the fuel monitoring as a preemptive test for bore scoring. The oil analysis is a great complimentary analysis so you can sleep somewhat easier at night - once the IMS has been done. I am ready for the next one (famous last words)!!!

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 17455176

Don't buy a car that you can't perform a proper "dual view" borescope evaluation of the cylinders. If the seller says no, you say no. It's that simple. No other tool is conclusive in observing bore condition at the time of sale. I continue to receive bad news from new buyers, and many of them are doing this to themselves. I have compiled a list of tickets from new owners (the newest had the car 4 months before bore scoring was conclusively diagnosed) and will be sharing them on Rennvision soon, along with some interviews with the owners.

POST 11Original post

@Flat6 Innovations I don't even know if most of the local Pcar shops do a boresope! Let alone those out of town....whilst I do agree and understand that the reward far outweighs the risk involved.... when I was shopping for mine... no shop offered it and I was looking all over the country and asking for PPI....I understand you pay for what you get, you dont ask you dont get etc... but supply is so low... some buyers just dont have the chance to do this.

POST 12Original post

Part 4 oof the "Focus on Bore Scoring" series on www.rennvision.tv explains the process. It even shows how to use an Amazon sourced, 40.00 bore scope to do the procedure yourself as a buyer, slyer, or independent shop. Any of the IMS Solution Certified Installers across N America can do this task, as each have been trained in the IMS Solution advanced training classes about the tasks associated with pre- qualification of an engine prior to an IMSR procedure. This includes bore scope evaluations. The only issue with sharing so much information in the Focus on Bore Scoring series, with its 10+ hours of content has been sellers and shops identifying early onset bore scoring, then putting the car up for sale before symptoms become apparent. The new buyer purchases the car, assuming that since "it runs fine" that it does not have any mechanical issues. They believe they can skip the procedure, and many do. Some of them message us afterward saying that they had read about this, but due to hassles they decided not to perform the checks. That is a 20K+ life lesson for these folks. You don't want to be one of them. I plan to offer a series of classes to professionals only that go over bore scoring diagnosis, and bore scoping. I am going to offer the basic bore scope class for free, as a service to the entire community.

POST 13Original post

The idea of bore scoping from the pan wasnt in question or what I was looking for, the problem I had was getting the scope up in there to get meaningful visual information. Would love to see the actual process of getting the scope up in there to look.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 17457298

It takes patience, and effort with the right scope to be successful. As an example, I enter cylinder #6, by first entering cylinder #5, then bending the scope the right way to see the bore. I then rotate the scope radially to see more of the bore. Additional ambient light from a flashlight with an incandescent bulb is another great key. LEDs are often too bright, and cast too many shadows into the bore to be effective.

POST 15Original post

Hi Jake I'd love to see a more in depth tutorial on this, I tried it with the Amazon camera, it's quite hard , you make it look so easy, I could get the middle cylinders no problem but getting into the others is hard , I got in some but like you say the led was giving me reflection off the cylinder wall, I'll try the torch trick next time, we should install cameras into the crank casting below each cylinder on a rebuild then have a live feed on the dashboard with a live video feed up each cylinder lol

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 17461534

Its only easy after youve done it a few hundred times. Ambient light is a good key because it reduces how close the camera needs to be to see the scoring, which helps greatly on cylinder 6. I will have to do another video on this sometime in the near future. I am way behind with all the video stuff, because I have been in development mode all year.

POST 17Original post

Sounds like a challenge to make a video of the process too.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 17461914

Not really.. Well have to use a split screen to show the scope view, as well as the entry pathway simultaneously. Since we cant get people to actually subscribe to the channel, it hasnt been a priority to add content.

POST 19Original post

I went back and watched Episode #4 to watch you do it. I was laying on my back in the dark which probably didn't help. Adding some additional lighting and getting it further up in the air would have helped some I'm sure.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 17408321

any more updates on this?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17713764

Thanks Justin! I decided to put new fuel injectors in. If the excess fuel in the oil is from the injector spewing fuel in all the wrong places then replacing them seemed prudent. I am in the process of doing this now. While I am doing that, with the intake manifolds off, I replaced the SAI system because it was throwing a code and would not pass smog inspection. That lead to replacing the vacuum system, which I've done on old Mercedes with good results, and it's not that hard. Given that the AOS system is right there I am replacing it along with all of it's vacuum lines. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...r-project.html the plan is get it back together, drive 5000 miles and run another oil analysis. I'll post those results on this thread to see if there are any changes to the amount of fuel in the oil. Yay!

POST 22Original post

Smart plan and please keep us posted. My fuel dilution was 1.81 but creeping up there so curious to see if my new injectors I replaced back in April will lower that number.
