Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm going in to do a bunch of upper engine work. More pix to follow as the project moves forward. I'm glad that I am able to do the work on a great car. Im going in!

POST 3Original post

I need to do this as well, but its far beyond my presently feeble skills. Good luck!

POST 4Original post

I did all that 2 winters ago. A little tight but doable.

What did you use a guide. I've got all the books. I'm a slow but steady kind of guy so i've got time. The parts aren't even here yet. I'm just taking things aparts. The plan is to take off the intake manifolds. I'd like to avoid that if at all posible, but i don't think that it is. Best!

POST 6Original post

Have you considered doing an SAI delete? Would allow you to remove the pump, the plumbing, and relocate the vacuum canister to where the pump used to be. Of course, would also require a modification to the DME tune/bin file. M96 SAI blockoff plates M96 SAI blockoff plates installed vacuum canister relocation

I just dove into it. I used the pet drawings from autoatlanta for part numbers. U will 100% have to pull the intakes. Its not that bad.

POST 8Original post

If we could mount the AOS in that spot...and have magnificent Speed Yellow like that one...

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17474542

I did look into that, but have no interest in doing DME work. I just want it to pass emissions so I can drive it. Best,

POST 10Original post

Oh and do yourself a favor look up the uaos for the aos replacement. Do it and u will never have to get to the back side of the motor again to change it.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I picked this back up this weekend. A buddy of mine and I got the left intake manifold off yesterday and pulled out the Secondary Air System valve, vacuum system, and the Air Oil Separator. Not too bad of jobs to do. I think this car is easier than working on GM products. I was a lot cleaner at the end of the day too. Overall I'm very happy with our progress. Look for more pix soon. Yay!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I made it all the way to the back. Got both intake manifolds off. The right one was in a way more difficult because of the AC compressor. Injectors are out. Now sorting out parts. Many things are different than whats in the books

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The fuel rail was different than anything i could find. Only one supply with no return line. This cap didnt show up either. I took it off to get the coolant expansion tank out. There seems to be several odd things about this car.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You Tube This is by far the best how to video I've seen. It has really helped me get the intakes, and everything else, back on the car. Thank you FCPEuro!

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its slowly coming together. Overall I think its pretty easy car to work on. I notice I'm not filthy either when I'm done.

POST 16Original post

also performing the water pump and thermostat?

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not this time around. Basically working on the top half of the engine. Both of those items were replaced about 20K miles ago. The plan is to do them again next season.

POST 18Original post

Good luck! I did the similar top side work last winter, UAOS, Replaced all fuel injectors, Replaced all vacuum lines, Rebuilt the Starter, Replaced Starter/Alternator Y cable (with custom heavier gauge), New gaskets on intakeNew cross-over AOS vent tube (which had a leak), Between this forum, the Bentley book, and the parts diagrams, I had all the information I needed.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got everything back together yesterday and it started! I cranked for a few seconds with nothing. Paused for a moment and it started on the second attempt. It would have been trying to get fuel into the injectors. I didn't find low coolant to be too much of an issue from only draining from the engine. I was expecting there to be lots of burping and the coolant tank to run low. I did not bleed the cooling system with vacuum, but simply left the tab open on the tank. Ended up putting about 2 gallons back in. I'll be monitoring that for the next couple short trips. Yay!
