Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I go in my garage I sometimes stall because I am using the clutch to slowly edge the car over where the concrete hits the pavement. Sometimes I stall it. When I go to start, it sometimes struggles on sounds like the starter and tranny are lining up as when the car is cold or warm with a normal stop if the motor. Why is that? Just when I stall it.

POST 2Original post

Is the car usually hot when you stall? Most likely you need a new alternator to starter cable or a new starter, I'd do both.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes the car is usually warm but does happen when cold too. It does only happen when I stall it. If I drive around and just turn the car off, it turns back on no problem. Thanks.

POST 4Original post

Its probably the starter dont know why its worse after a stall. Mine did the same thing until a new starter was put in.

POST 5Original post

These cars often dont sound good when restarting after a stall. Im not entirely sure why.

POST 7Original post

In my experience with manual gearbox cars, ANY manual car of ANY type does not like to be stalled. Just something about stalling when it wants to be running. Next time it starts up it is like it is telling you "don't stall me or I will run like crap when you restart me."

POST 8Original post

I think I remember someone once explaining that engines, when turned off normally with the key at idle, tend to stop rotating at similar places over and over again. So much so, that the flywheel has marking that show starter engagement at specific places. Im guessing one reason for a stalled restart sounding and feeling different is the unusual spot the engine just stopped at.

POST 9Original post

My Miata would do the same thing. Stall it, long crank on restart. I always thought maybe it was something to do with the fuel injectors not shutting down correctly or something during a stall vs an ignition off event.
