That PPI will include leak down, compression, and bore scope tests of all cylinders, as well as a sump inspection and used oil analysis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys, I'm looking at a car with a VF Engineering supercharger kit. I am considering doing a leak down test to see if there is any excessive blow by from having the kit on the car for a while. Also, is there anyway to monitor for knock to see if the timing and fuel are still inline with where it needs to be for boost? BTW I'm sure this subject will open a can of worms, I know what I'm potentially getting into, but I would like to do all that I can to ensure the base engine is still healthy. I wasn't looking for a car with a blower, but I happen to like the car it's attached to. Thanks in advance, Grant

POST 2Original post

Borescope the cylinders for sure in addition to the sop like filter and sump inspection.

POST 3Original post

Grant, you need data. Before you get in too deep ,ask for a copy of a very recent Smog Test readout. It is a crude, inadequate measure but it is zero cost to you and needs to be done anyway with the change in ownership(??).The HC ,Co readings may give hints of issues ? But the best plan is to find a really competent Indie who has lots of Porsches in his yard and comes highly recommended here &/or by PCA. Without such sources for reliable data and it's interpretation it is just a gamble ?

POST 4Original post

Supercharging or turbo charging a high compression engine is not the best way to go. The engines internals in stock form are marginal at best. I would be very cautious.

POST 5Original post

Many emission tests are OBDII scans only and won't give you any tailpipe readings.

POST 6Original post

Have an invasive, engine specific PPI carried out before you even consider this one. That PPI will include leak down, compression, and bore scope tests of all cylinders, as well as a sump inspection and used oil analysis. Approach with great care.
