Hey guys:
I am trying to figure out what maintenance intervals I should plan to. My engine from my 2002 targa was replaced under warrantee with a re man in 2005.
What parts came bolted to the engine? Were all the accessories reused? In the absence of good records doing assume that the car has 60,000 kms (odometer reading now). Or that it has 40,000 kms (replaced at 20k)?

I am thinking about things like water pump, air oil separator, spark plugs, etc.
The techs tell me remanufactured engines come complete with starter, alternator, A/C compressor, plugs, water pump, etc. Also, the few I have seen still crated are complete. I think I have pics of a remanufactured X51 engine for a 997 still on the crate pallet.
With a new/replacement engine the engine service begins anew.
The drivetrain servicing remains as it was before.
If you have no records of what servicing the engine or drivetrain received I'd err on the side of caution and do an oil/filter service pronto.
Check the engine air filter and cabin air filter and replace if they look dirty. Or since they are not that expensive just replace and be sure.
Check the body water drains and be sure they are free of debris.
Check the radiator ducts and if they are full of trash clean these out of have them cleaned out. The best cleaning requires the bumper cover be removed to gain full access to the condensers and radiators.
Plugs could be due on time if not miles. Again I'd err on the side of caution.
Might mention here this flurry of servicing, so to speak, is the "price" you pay (or should pay) for not being able to obtain servicing history. Not to put too fine a point on it but you should have asked for and received some adjustment to the car's price due to the lack of servicing history as you would be faced with bringing the servicing up to date.
Also, have the brake fluid and clutch fluid -- if a manual -- flushed and bled. This is due every 2 years.
Later on, a few months from now, you might want to have the coolant drained and refilled with fresh and have the transmission/diff fluid changed.
