Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Not an issue anymore as they all were replaced with cap head bolts

I used a 1/4 in torque wrench I borrowed from a mechanic friend.

Suggestion
If the threads are clean usually that's the case and they aren't too bad to take out.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thought I was ****ed
In the process of replacing my water pump, I torqued off on of the bolt heads.
Yes, I was using a torque wrench @ 7 ftlbs.
Got a bunch of the bolts torqued and then no click and it got really easy to turn the bolt. I'm thinking now I am in deep crap.
unbolted it and pulled the WP and YES! part of the bolt was sticking out. grabbed it with vice grips and it was easy to turn. Un-clamped and I was able to remove the broken bolt with my fingers
Off to get all new bolts today
Dodged a bullet
Recently had the same thing happen with a throttle body bolt on my girlfriend's car. When I popped off the throttle body I literally said "oh *** yes!"
You better have that Tq wrench checked.. Those bolts will most always take double the rated Tq before they have an issue. Even then, most of the time it'll rip the threads out before the bolt will snap.
Remember that a torque wrench is most accurate from ~40 - 90% of it's rating. So if your wrench has a 0 - 250ftlb rating you wil probably twist heads off all day without it clicking. Get a small 1/4" drive wrench, inch lbs even.
I used a 1/4 in torque wrench I borrowed from a mechanic friend. Snap on. Set at 84 inlbs. The other bolts were fine. Must have had a weak bolt.
The factory bolts are 10.9. All I can find in flange head are 8.8. I guess is could use 10.9 hex head and a washer or even a cap head and washer. I'm thinking the 8.8 boots should be fine for a water pump any way
It does, helps lubricate it going in, and then once it's there and aligned it won't allow it to move.
No big deal that it's permanent as a new bearing will last forever with it's unicorn sperm coating.
it be a factory kraut bolt that snapped
I definitely was not applying a lot of torque to it. Same wrench and setting as all the other bolts. Not an issue anymore as they all were replaced with cap head bolts
