Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I do an oil change on my 145K original motor and the magnetic drain plug comes out clean. Pretty amazing actually with all those chains whizzing around in there. Burns less than a qt in 5K miles. Yea, DT40.

POST 2Original post

Do you mean completely clean? Wow changed oil today and now posted this pic twice. This is mine

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mine had grey film on it Wiped it with a paper towel and there was grey smear. No spikey looking material on the magnet. Could not see a difference in the shape before and after wiping so it was just thin coating of the Grey smunch. What oil are you running?

POST 4Original post

That was platinum Pennzoil ultra euro 5w40. Switched to mobil 1 ow40 for the winter. This was more than a grey film. There are definitely some metal particle in there. Can't check the filter. Have the LN spin on adapter. And am glad about that.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have the LN also. You can cut the filter open using a pair of tin snips / aviation shears. Just cut off the top lip and the can comes right off. DT40 is the best for our M96 motors, something about ZDPE ? Content. My motor sounds better with the DT40 than M1.

POST 6Original post

148,000 on original motor here, with same good results, so I understand how you feel. I had recently decided to go to DT40 at the next change, but obviously Mobil 1 has been working pretty well.

POST 13Original post

I'm here and thank you for the mentions! I do carry Joe Gibbs Driven and to stir the pot I have been selling more Motul lately for 996/997's.. Either way both great oils, contact me if interested. -Jason

Hmm, praise for the 996? Me so confused.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I love here, she has treated me well. The most sure footed sports car that still feels like a real sports car I have ever owned. Sure the C4s push a little, but they don't spin out easily in the rain ( el nino special edition). That said, I might be lovin a 2002 996 tt a little more by this time next year.
