Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Shifter, Fister, & Rebuilt Motor
The car is reborn.
The 997S shifter is a great improvement over the stock 2000 unit and I'm very satisfied.
The jury is still out on the Fisters, when I first heard them as the tech drove the car out of the garage I was not happy with the exhaust note. As I drove away all that came to mind was, "This sounds like a Japanese tuner." It has loosened up a bit in the last 2 weeks but not exactly what I was expecting after listening to and reading about these units, ymmv.
Just before summer slammed into SoCal I noticed the car started to run warmer than typical especially in stop and go driving and suspected the typical culprits in the cooling system. Dropped her off at Vision Motorsports for a look see and to replace the clutch and IMS, it was time. The cooling system was in good shape but they discovered low compression in two cylinders and a warped head and what I would describe as a light "clunk" when turning the crank. This was explained as a problem with the cam chains not turning freely.
So of all the options presented, I went with a rebuild. Had an option to go with a 3.8 but the extra cost for that was not in the budget. They went through the rest of motor which was in great shape. The rebuild has brought a new level of performance to the 2000 3.4 (50,000 mile, third owner) motor that I would describe as a bit more torque and HP, but overall it is smooooooth. Buttery smooth.
My hats off to Vision for their work and willingness to educate and discuss all options. It wasn't inexpensive and I sweated the money the whole time, but in the end it was worth it to me.

That's because there are so very few "good" mechanics. I'm willing to bet you would have better luck finding a unicorn than an honest good mechanic. Most are scams looking to take advantage of people and especially Porsche owners as they are perceived as naive
