Could be a costly repair, have to get it on a lift and take a look, thanks for input so far!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good morning, Found these spots a few days ago. When first noticed them put a cardboard on floor to see exactly how serious the leak was, but there were more oil spots on the 3rd and 4th day than there was on the first day. No recent oil change was done either. Any thoughts please, thanks

POST 2Original post

Are you sure this is oil and not just exhaust vapour, is it dripping with the engine off - or running? If it is at a standstill and off get a torch and look directly above where the patches are you should be able to see it based on the laws of gravity. That will only be where it is dripping from and not necessarily where the source is that will need more investigation. O_Sr

POST 3Original post

British torch = flashlight, not oxy-acetylene. And if anyone knows about oil leaks it's probably O_Sr.

POST 4Original post

Is that where the cardboard was and the leaks are that for back? If so you lucked out and its your motor mounts.

POST 5Original post

Thanks fpb - yes tino I meant point your Fleshlight upwards to see where the drips are coming from... Or something like that.

POST 6Original post

Step back a little and take a pic of the rear so we can see the tail pipe spacing.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The cardboard was pulled forward, leaks are further back. Cannot get under car to see where leaks are coming from, don't have any jacks. Will post picture of cardboard placement

POST 8Original post

What year is your Porsche cab? Earlier 911s like my '99 have spark plug tubes that can leak small amounts.

POST 11Original post

It could also be the RMS at this point. I had the same amount and it was the RMS

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If it's rms, once it's taken apart, should also do ims bearing and clutch job. Could be a costly repair, have to get it on a lift and take a look, thanks for input so far! Keep comments coming please !

POST 13Original post

Suggesting arson for an oil leak is a little extreme, bruh! And to the OP, are you the same Tino thats a Porsche salesman?

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12572529

I'm not a Porsche salesman

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The spots on the cardboard are a brownish colour, so I'm assuming oil

POST 17Original post

The spots look oily - but at least one of the spots is darker at the edge, suggesting that there was some evaporation going on. Oil doesn't evaporate like that, so...

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

the spot with the darker edge is a circle i made around the spot with a pencil. I wanted to see if the spot got bigger, sorry my wrong doing.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 12574597

Lol. Don't do that, you may taint the sample if you send it in for oil analysis coming back with a high amount of lead.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12574676

Thanks for the info, you are correct! I've had this car for 3 years and not one drop from the under carriage, I have to figure this out!

POST 21Original post

Heh. You said "taint" How many oil spots total? It's so weird to have one car (the 911) that isn't supposed to leak oil...and on the other side of the garage is the Corvette, which only stops leaking oil when it's time to add oil.

POST 22Original post

I had similar drops of oil from my 993; turned out to be the bumper shock absorber.

Most I had was 5, but funny thing, the spots didn't all occur at the same time. Occurred over a period of 2-3 days. I verified it tonite, car has been parked for 4 hrs, no spill. No logic
