Outside of that, I've installed the GT3 Center Console Delete which has been amazing for leg room and the care came hardwired with Bluetooth.

IMS replaced by LN Engineering by a previous owner, but car did not come with much paperwork outside of a clean CARFAX and the maintenance booklets.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Somehow I lost my mind in 2019 and got rid of my 997.2.
I have now recovered and I am thinking about a 996.2 C4S. It seems like the nicest ones I've seen recently are $40k and up. One of them has been posted for sale for several weeks (asking $49k).
I have not contacted the dealer yet but I noticed on the Carfax that they had it serviced where I probably was going to get an invasive PPI done. Is it inappropriate to reach out to the shop for details before contacting the dealer? Should I pick another shop for the invasive PPI? The ad says IMS has been addressed but I need to get the details on that as well?
And finally, is this where the price of these cars is going? I saw one on BaT was sold in mid December for $40k by an Audi dealership in Fresno - no price yet but sales rep said they expect to be asking mid $50k for that one!
Thanks in advance. Here is the link:

My local Porsche dealership had a Blue 03 or 04 C2 coupe, manual transmission with 3X,xxx miles for sale.
Thought it was crazy that they were asking 39K for it.
Then I noticed that it was sold.
I doubt they got 39K for it.
But did they drop the price by 14K?
Exactly
My example of a C2 was just emphasizing how inflated some asking prices are.
Im just wondering how much room is left for negotiation.
Will a dealer drop their asking price by 30% or more?
Not in my experience.
And YES the 03 C4S IS priced too high.
Its clear prices for nice 996s are rising and the C4S typically is at the top of the non-metzger heap. I know we all like a bargain but the saying pay now or pay later certainly applies to a 17 year old car.
The one that is supposed to be priced in the mid $50's still hasn't been priced yet. I find it hard to believe they will price it that high - he might have misspoken and it will actually be in the mid $40's. Here's the listing:

The others that I've seen all have under 50k miles and they are all priced $43k and up. Might just be a temporary spike - I've only been looking for a few weeks....
Timing is everything and there is a really nice one listed on BAT at the moment that has all the preventive work and 45K on the clock. It will be interesting to watch to see how the auction ends:

Wow, new auction up today. Yeah I'm curious to see how that one goes. BaT is awesome for sellers but tough for buyers if you want to try to get a thorough PPI done before purchase.
I have to admit in the second week of December i bought an immaculate C4S with 48.000 including documentation of the IMS RMS AOS and cam seals along with a new clutch for $43k and I couldnt be happier. I understand the KBB value is irrelevant with these cars and realized that the C4S model in a coupe is getting more difficult to find with this type of history and condition.
Maybe people have extra money to spend on these because they sold their Tesla stock...
It seems overpriced. But maybe we're in a bubble where instead of spending money on vacations, because they can't, people are looking for a different type of escape. So the prices go up.
It's difficult to foresee the evolution of prices. Two years ago, you could by 4S with 50K miles for 30K, and now, those same cars are in the range between 35$-40$. The question for those on the hunt now is: to wait because this is a temporary bubble, or buy those units before they are not available at those prices anymore...
i paid 30k for mine in 2012. Had 42k miles on it at the time. Even then it was one of the cheaper cars i could find. First car we looked at was yellow at sold for 38k on ebay auction.
Sorry no pics on the car yet. One rotor got delayed in shipping. Currently have two cars on jack stands in the garage that need attention.
Darker black barrels.
Lighter color in the sun.
Interesting thread. I paid $31k for my 04 C4S with 50k mi. in Jan. 18. Immaculate condition (zoomie sound system that hasnt worked very well but I like engine noise better anyway...). IMS and clutch done. Im going to do the AOS/clutch/Solution soon just because.

Great looking car
With the preventive maintenance done and that condition, you did good.
996s have continued to go up in value for past few years, the past year did have a bump.
Too many stories popping up over the last couple years, of "good deals" on 996s, only a year down the road, turning out to be not such a good deal.
Anyone buying a 996 without a strong maintenance history is taking a risk.
The key, You are happy.
The silver C4S on BaT just sold for $41,750 and it didnt even have sport seats but was lower miles with 45K on the clock and had The Solution installed. This pricing is in line with the recent upward trend, it seems.
I agree. Seemed to have a lot of wear for such a low mileage car. Perhaps that may be more due to time than actual use. Still it seems like a high price to pay for an otherwise pedestrian C4S (no special color, no special options, etc.) Seems a lot of the 996s on BAT are owned less than a year by the current owner before selling them there. Many I've seen were owned for just 6-9 months. Seems like they just cleaned them up, drove them a little, and passed them along with the BAT mark-up.
Bought my 02 4s with 14k miles for around $33k on BaT a year or so ago. Sold it a few month ago with 17k miles on BaT and got $38k. I about broke even on it. I installed the LN IMS bearing and new clutch. To me the car was worth more than $38k. The one that sold yesterday was nice, but had many more miles on it than mine. I guess people didn't like the GT3 Euro seats on mine. Wish i would have kept them. lol
Just curious ... how was the buying experience on BaT? The thing that concerns me is the inability to get a thorough PPI done before the auction ends. And if there are multiple people who show interest in the car I would think the seller wouldn't be super motivated to get the PPI done if there are other bidders who are willing to buy without one. For me and my comfort level, I don't think I could buy a 996 or even a 997 on BaT without a PPI. That's just me.
I had a very good buying experience, but maybe I was lucky. I spent all week reading over and looking at the car the best I could. It really didn't have much service history as a 14k mile car, so there was a bit of mystery to it. I happened to find the dealer that sold the car to the guy I bought it from. They dealer looked reputable and had good reviews, so that gave me some reassurance. After I won the auction, I did panic a bit. Buying a car that I had not seen, driven, or had inspected. Also, it was my first 911 and 996, and I was only just learning about them. I knew all about IMS and needing to replace. It wasn't until a couple months later when I learned about scoring. The seller was a good guy. He probably didn't like me much after the auction because I started asking a lot of questions, that should have been asked before hand. At one point he actually told me " If you don't want the car, you don't have to buy it" " I don't want to sell it this cheap anyway" (it was a no reserve auction) It was probably that one comment that made me feel much better. I drove to pick the car up and brought it back home. I had a great year with it and 3000 miles. For me, if I wanted to own a 996 (non turbo) I needed to be comfortable with spending $25k on an engine rebuild at some point. For months, I decided I was OKAY with this. After a while, I found myself constantly looking at 996 turbos. I decided that a turbo was a better option for me. I tried buying one on BaT, but it reached a price that was out of my range. I found mine on Rennlist from a good guy in CA. This time I had a PPI done before I bought.
For better or worse, I would probably buy and sell on BaT again. Its quite the rush.
$52,996
2002 C4S at Audi Fresno
Yes, you're reading it that right - $52,996! Checked on it today. They said it is actually worth more than what they have it priced at. They purchased it on BaT in December for $40,252.

Seeing the selling numbers on these cars lately is making me think of listing mine.
I bought it last April off of Craigslist from a gentleman who had it less than a year. He was looking to relocate to CA to be with his daughter and grand children. It has a window sticker of $98k and had 42,500 miles now about 45,500. IMS replaced by LN Engineering by a previous owner, but car did not come with much paperwork outside of a clean CARFAX and the maintenance booklets. I took a chance and I'm glad I did. I bought it for $28,500.

For sure! I've done some maintenance work on it, but nothing major.
I'm thinking of doing a full detail/paint correction with ceramic coating in a few months. Get some dings/scratches taken care of and refinish the wheels. Think it's money well spent.
Outside of that, I've installed the GT3 Center Console Delete which has been amazing for leg room and the care came hardwired with Bluetooth.
Insane, I sold my 04 4s(96 msrp new), 50k mi, 6spd about in 2017 for $30k. About to list my pop's 03 tiptronic w/ 67k mi. here pretty soon...seems like BAT is the way to go!
