Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It appears that we have a lot less selection on 295/30-18 REAR tires on the stock rear rims. So I'm considering going with 285/30 or 285/35 295/30-18 = 75 mph 285/30-18 = 74.29 mph 285/35-18 = 77.66 mph Maybe even 305 series, but there's a lot less of those.

POST 2Original post

I'm running 285/35 rear and have run as big as 315. Stock size 10" width MY02. I don't pay much attention to the effect on the speedo meter or speed in gear, though. I'm just trying to cram as much rubber as possible on the car for autocross.

POST 3Original post

I ran 285/35 on GT3 rims ... did not like em. Put 295 back on. Sumi III

POST 4Original post

285/30-18 was the stock configuration for MY02 with the 18" wheel option, and is the size I run. The selection for this size is not all the large either. Bridgestone S-04s will be the next tires I mount on this car, because the Hankooks I have been running are no longer produced.

POST 5Original post

I run 285/35-18 in the rear with no lip problems and the .7inch extra height fills in the fender nicely.

POST 7Original post

I'm running 285/35/18 S-04 Pole Positions on the rear of my 2004 C2. They're a great tire.

POST 8Original post

^ +1 on the 285-35/18s, running the Bridgestone S-04 on both the 996 and the 928 with no fitment issues. The little extra sidewall height as opposed to the 285-30 makes for a little softer ride as both split time as my DDs.

POST 9Original post

How wide are your rear wheels? Sport Technos and GT3 wheels are 11 inches wide out back, while many of the other factory options (Sport Designs etc.) are 10 inches wide. 295 for 11 inches, 285 for 10 inches.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the immediate info folks! It appears that there are more options with the 35 series as in 285/35-18. But my issue is that I'm running the original 225/40-18 fronts. This represents a big speed differential between the front and rear wheels. Since I've heard of damages to the center diff, I didn't want to risk it since it's apparently an $8k job. My wheels are the stock turbo twists. I don't know if they are 11 or 10 inches wide. I'[d have to remove them to see. The car is a 2004 C4S with the wide body. So if I have 11 inchers, would the 285's still work? I don't want them to be falling off if I take the car to the track....

A 2004 C4S will have 11 inch wide rears from the factory. You can use 285s safely but you may run into the speed differential issues that you are trying to avoid. not sure on that one. Most 285 have a rim width range of 9.5 to 11 inches wide.

POST 13Original post

stop guessing goofin around. If you have a 996 c4s stock rims are 8 wide 45mm offset front 11 wide 45mm offset rear. 225/40/18 295/30/18 which is stock size OR you can go with 235/40/18 315/30/18 which works fine and is acceptable plenty of selections in those 2
