Thinking I need to adjust that....but also thinking I should change the tires in front from 205's to 225's before I do that.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello 996 forum, Sneaking in here with a question about the 996 10 spoke wheels i have, i've been running 225/45 and 255/40 RE-11s on the 7"/9" wheel set i have on my 944 and i've been looking at my options.. Can i get away with a 245/40 on a 7" wheel? or am i stuck with a 225? I'm looking at the new RE-71R's which list an 8"to 9.5" rim width for the 245's. I will be doing Auto-x and track days with the car. I'm hoping someone may have done this which is why i asked here instead of the 944 forum. Thanks! Obligatory picture of the car.

POST 2Original post

You can't run a low-profile 245 on a 7x17" wheel. 225 is safe, but that's the limit. You don't need that much rear .tire, in my opinion, so you can come down to a 245 to improve the balance if that's the issue.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Balance has been a problem, i've had to really tighten up the rear of the car to get out of mega understeer and I've worn out the fronts pretty badly vs the rears as a result. I was hoping to add more grip vs lose some by going to a narrower tire in the back, but if it can't be done then I will stick to 225's. Thanks

POST 4Original post

I have a 951 and have a lot of understeer vs. my 968 which was totally balanced. I put some 17" turbo twists on it last year, it still had the 205's on them in the front and 245's in the rear from a 996. I also have a M030 968 adjustable rear sway bar. Thinking I need to adjust that....but also thinking I should change the tires in front from 205's to 225's before I do that. I just don't drive the car that much to be too worried about it.....or maybe I don't want to spend the money!
