Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been on this site for a while, mostly reading and learning as I prepared to buy my first 911. I have wanted a 911 for a lot of years, but so many other things have just taken priority. But I finally saved up enough cash, and I have been watching for what I wanted for a number of months. I found a great car pretty close to home, I was expecting to have to travel a long way to buy the right car. My timing could have been better though, I purchased it the first week of March. I was expecting Covid19 to impact the economy, just not as much as it has. Anyway, I am now the proud owner of a very nice, low mileage 996. 59K miles. Very good condition, but not perfect. I have a few cosmetic things to address. Mechanically it seems to be very solid! I did not get a PPI, (I know, I know). I did my own assessment. Previous owner seemed like an honest guy, and he is a certified aircraft mechanic for the Air National Guard. We discussed the engine at length. I will admit that I could have been a bit more thorough inspecting it before the purchase, my excitement got the better of me. I do have some knowledge of the M96 engine, I have owned a Boxster for over 4 years and I did the IMSB, RMS and clutch myself when I bought it. Since purchasing the 911, I have done a bit of investigation as to the state of the engine. I transferred my LN spin on adapter and filter mag from the Boxster to the 911 (I am selling the Boxster). I also dropped the oil sump pan on the 911 to see if there was anything there that should not be. Sump was beautifully clean thankfully! I will be changing and inspecting the oil filter at 500 and 1000 miles to be sure I don't have an issue. I am also going to find someone local who can check my cam deviation. I do have a spark plug tube weeping some oil as well as some oil on the outside of the throttle body. I need to address both of those. The RMS is perfectly dry though. Other than that though, it seems to be very solid, sounds correct and drives as it should! I think I bought it for a good price and it came with 3 sets of rims. I am selling the 997 19" wheels that are on it as well as a set of 18" Turbo Twits that have been powder coated black. I am keeping the 18" 911 Turbo aluminum spokes and putting new tires on them. I have a few upgrades in mind such as adding the center radiator, double din stereo and coil overs as well as some preventative maintenance. I have new clear side marker lights in hand, just don't have them installed yet.
