Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I took my bumper cover off when I changed my mufflers.
Leading evidence: 'Replace mufflers' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check rust condition of all nuts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I used a torsion bar on the rusty bolts, broke them intentionally because they wouldn't move even after using PB Blaster and bought others from local hardware store.

Any reason you're set on not removing the bumper cover?

Suggestion
Yeah, when I took them off, I just used a jack and raised it up enough to where I could get them out without hitting the rear bumper, and I had the rear wheels off.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

tried a search with no luck. Some say it's easy, I looked around in there and not sure what's the best way. Was looking for a way possibly w/o removing the bumper cover...
Thanks, Brad
Any reason you're set on not removing the bumper cover? It is pretty easy to take off. The way I did it:
1.) place rear of car on jack stands
2.) Remove rear wheels
3.) Remove bumper cover
4.) Loosen connection between muffler and cat pipes
5.) If it is the first time taking the mufflers off, remove bracket to subframe (3 horizontal bolts) and remove muffler.
6.) Flip long bolt so it drops out the bottom of the bracket.
7.) Reinstall.
Takes less than an hour if nothing is seized.
Step 1 -- check rust condition of all nuts. If rusted badly, take to a shop. Ask me how I know.
Step 2 --

Don't know anything C4s specific but on a regular C2, like Breif said, you only need to remove the 3 bolts (#16 in the diagram here

) and the sleeves that connect the mufflers to the cats. With the rear wheels removed, the mufflers can be removed with some maneuvering.

What are you swapping the cans to?
I took my bumper cover off when I changed my mufflers. If you don't have access to a lift, then removing the cover makes it easier to get to the mufflers in my opinion. The bumper cover is very easy to remove and reinstall.
The muffler removal procedure is the same for the C4S as it is for the C2 and C4. You definitely need to soak the bolts with some PB Blaster or something equivalent for a while before trying to remove them.
A plus on that statement. I removed my mufflers when I changed my plugs and coils without touching the rear bumper cover. I used a torsion bar on the rusty bolts, broke them intentionally because they wouldn't move even after using PB Blaster and bought others from local hardware store. No problem.
i just took mine off on a c4 and you do not need to remove the bumper cover at all....remove the 3 nuts off the mounting bracket, loosen the pipe clamps....and wiggle, drop it out....really easy. You do need the tires off...and spray down your bolts. The key is sliding the pipe clamps to the center of the car so you can drop the muffler....its not hard...
