Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just realized I can switch gears without having to floor the clutch. In all my years of driving sports cars I've always fully depressed the clutch. Maybe a little less in sprinted driving, but generally I always fully depress. I have no signs of slippage. My car has about 37k miles. Question; Is this a early sign of wear or just years of driving error on my part? Have I been waisting milliseconds on my gear changes all these years?

POST 2Original post

In theory, once you are moving from a stop in first, you technically no longer need the clutch to shift between gears as long as the engine and the transmission are spinning at EXACTLY the same speed. In practice, this is very difficult and even if you think it is perfectly aligned speed wise, you are still chewing the synchros up. The closer you are to having the trans and the engine aligned, the less you theoretically need the clutch the slip the engine and trans together.

POST 3Original post

^^^That is true with older cars, I remember I had mastered that technique with my E30. But I wouldn't try it on the 996.

POST 4Original post

I too would never try it on anything other than a beater, and even then I wouldnt recommend it.
