Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Maybe somebody has relevant experience... When I drive at ~60mph with constant speed my rear diff starts to sing Wooooooo. It stops singing when accelerating or decelerating. Is it an expensive issue? My car is '02 C2 with 43k miles and I believe that most likely diff oil is still original. BTW, some cool photos of my 996

POST 2Original post

Change the diff oil. Mine makes a little whining noise even after a fresh diff oil change, but I attribute that to some wear and general Porsche noises.

POST 4Original post

Take this with a barrel of salt...on a muscle car I used to have, the humming rear end was caused by uneven tooth wear.

POST 5Original post

Kind of hard to troubleshoot without actually hearing it - can you make a sound recording of it?

Thanks, I'll do this asap and report back if it helped. 100% sure, checked that Diff will have to be replaced in worst case scenario I've tried but failed

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've recorded the video: You Tube

POST 9Original post

Honestly, that's normal on a lot of cars. Every cars seems to have it's own special sounds, that noise is just some clearance in the differential, not anything to worry about unless it starts getting louder quickly. DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!

POST 10Original post

Greetings Alex ! Have you found what was the problem ? Mine is making the same noise. Thanks ! Horatiu
