Just had that issue, turned out to be the voltage regulator failing which of course means changing the alternator since it is integrated into the alternator.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can someone point me in the right direction for possible reasons/solutions for these dash warning lights coming on intermittently? 2000 996 C2 coupe, seems to be starting and driving with no issues, even though these lights come on from time to time. Thanks in advance. Lights will sometimes flicker, and sometimes remain, and sometimes not appear. I'm usually driving every other day.

POST 2Original post

A good place to start would be to check all your fuses and the battery terminals for any sign of corrosion. How old is your battery?

POST 3Original post

Abs may be a connection at the wheel or a sensor going bad. Better shop scanners can graph the 4 sensors individually. I just did this the other day with an Autel scanner ti verify i corrected a code.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Battery is only a few months old.

POST 5Original post

Remove the covers left and right of battery and check that all your drains are clear and water has not built up. The ABS is anti-lock braking system and of course battery is something going on with the battery. Since both are approximately right next to each other, it could be water is in there.

thanks that makes sense, I'm also detecting a high-pitched whining which I suspect is also alternator-related.

Hey do you have a follow up on this? My ABS and Batter light came on, and my battery charge indicator was maxed. They turned off, and didn't come back, but I also am hearing a strange whine at around 5500. So wondering if related?
