Plus I have vehicle specific programs for all of our cars (VW, Mazda,Porsche) installed on one device.

Suggestion
I've never had an issue checking cam deviations with the 530 on my 01 C2, but recently found it out it won't give me fuel trims or misfire counts.

I bought one with checking cam deviations in mind.

When I couldn't find the setting, I emailed Foxwell.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

We had a NT530 for awhile that was preloaded with Porsche model software, and could not find cam deviations in it. Others told me theirs had it so maybe I needed a software update, and didn't want to take the chance so returned it and got a Durametric which I found had some drawbacks to the Foxwell and in the end both would be useful.
Old thread back to the top for all the Foxwell users...
No Cam dev for me on a 02 996.2 cab, no cam deviation on the menu. But on an 01 996.1, has the cam dev option on the menu, and seems to work very well on 3.4 and on a 3.6 997.1.
So not sure,,, but Foxwell saying its the 02 car that doesn't support it, might be right...?
jmo
I was told it would read cam deviations when I inquired after I purchased it. Contacted tech support and they described how to get to the menu. However, I could not find it. Foxwell never responded after that.
I too have an 02. Maybe its a quirk with 02-04 models.
I will have to try that. With my engine out and apart I will have to wait until it is reassembled and running. I would like to get a baseline reading on the new motor when that time comes so hopefully you have luck with above menus.
I looked all over the place and could never find it. At the time they told me my car didnt support it??? I recently emailed them with my VIN and they told me it would work so maybe they updated the software....or maybe it still won't work.
Resurrecting this thread.
Oddly, I do not have the screen under Actual Values that I used to have. Fuel trim is no longer an option (and cam dev was never avail). I have an 02 and just finished the rebuild. I want to verify fuel trims but the Foxwell doesnt have the option for me now.
Anyone else experienced this?
I think it's possible there are some anomalies with 996.2s.. I have a Foxwell 530 and could get an over rev report for my previous 987 Cayman and my current 981 Boxster S. Not so with the '94 996. Will try cam deviation in the next couple of days. Got the over rev report from a local shop with a PIWIS.
Well I updated the Foxwell software and still cannot get cam deviations and fuel trim on my 02. Not impressed. Those are the two items I need to read.
Anyone with Durametric confirm they can read these two items on an 02 as that is my next step.
Just tried it again yesterday on both cars, 996.1 & 996.2.
996.1 reads 3.59 & 4.89 cam dev.@ 34,000miles
996.2 doesn't even have the option to read cam dev.
And I got in by auto vin#, and then tried manual vin# then tried generic Porsche 996. Both let me in to most option
except cam dev and fuel trims and over revs
. All the things I want...lol. And yes, I'm updated.
Connected up to a neighbors 997.1 and all option where available,,, go figure..?
This is with a Foxwell NT530
@allcool
thanks for confirming the issue! Very disappointing as Foxwell claimed both could be read with their device. So, I guess Durametric is our only option.
Foxwell tech support confirmed that my car does not support the fuel trim and cam deviations (2002 c2). It is not clear if this is limited to model year 2002 or not.
I will be purchasing Durametric and move on.
It's not the car, it's the reader..
if the car didn't support it the durametric could not display it either. I believe on my durametric it shows the ECU is different. (03 C4)
My durametric shows multiple fuel trims and cam deviation.
Is it because Valvetronic + ?
I bought one with checking cam deviations in mind. When I couldn't find the setting, I emailed Foxwell. They responded and said that capability is not built in to the 530, but the 710 did have it. I sent the 530 back and bought the 710. Bingo! Woks like a charm. '99 C2.
I've never had an issue checking cam deviations with the 530 on my 01 C2, but recently found it out it won't give me fuel trims or misfire counts. So I have a Durametric arriving today.
Well, it's a Chinese product so what to expect. I'm not saying that everything that comes from there is crap but you get what you pay for. Hoping that Durametric would / could come up with a more recent / modern user experience. Just imagine Durametric in a handheld device....
I am that guy that goes out of his way to buy American. However I wont pay a premium for American when there is no value. The Durametric struck me as outdated and buggy based on what I read. But it seems to do what I need so I will pay for it since its the only game in town.
The Foxwell works well within its capabilities. Plus I have vehicle specific programs for all of our cars (VW, Mazda,Porsche) installed on one device. Not a total loss.
