Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I installed SS studs, then used a threaded nut on the stud, then installed SS lock nuts on the stud.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

If it’s a newer vehicle to you- and there isn’t a record of them being done, I’d bite the bullet and replace them while you’re in there. The updated 997 coil packs that superseded the 996 version are said to be more robust. They’ve held up well for about 5 years on my car so far.
If you do the 997 coil packs, which you should, I'd just order the kit so you get the longer bolts which are needed. Here is the difference between the two:
The updated 997 coil packs are so easy to install, but they are taller so you will have to devise a way to move the heat shields out. I installed SS studs, then used a threaded nut on the stud, then installed SS lock nuts on the stud. Very careful measurements did the job.
Not sure if this is different on a .1 car vs .2 but on my .2 the longer bolts that came with the kit did the trick. No measuring needed and stock heat shields fit fine over them. It was a simple plug and play job.
Okay...let me clarify. Mine is a .1. I bought the upgraded (and larger/taller) coil packs. They came with the correct bolts (2 each coil pack). On the original coil packs, the coil pack bolts are inset and a PITA to work on. The newer updated coil packs are taller and the bolts are not inset, making installation really easy, but, the coil pack bolt heads stick out further, so you need to move the heat shields out by about 5-6mm. Otherwise the heat shields will be sitting directly on the coil pack bolt heads (and you will bend/distort the heat shield...ask me how I know. Bought two new heat shields.) Thus the solution I put up earlier.
