Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Set pressure' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace broken cover' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I use the mequires polish for motorcycle windshields to finish the job, I use the same 3m kit..

Protect the surrounding area before starting work on the lens; I use painter's tape.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I wanted to polish the xenon headlight lenses on my 996, which meant doing something about the pop-up headlight washers in the middle of the lens. I googled around and found all sorts of things about fixing them after they break -- which I must admit I did not know was even a thing with these cars. I learned how they replace the broken cover, but not how to remove the cover if it isn't broken off. So I improvised.
I used a tire pump with a control that sets maximum pressure. I set the pressure to 10 lbs., later to 12 lbs.
I connected the pump to the pressure sprayer inlet tube at the back of the headlight.
I turned on the pump and, voila! The headlight washer popped up.
I removed the cover by prying out the tab on the side of cover while pulling up on it.
Re-installation is a simple matter of pushing the cover into place with the washer fully retracted. (The cover is adjustable for height.)
CAUTION: the covers are side-specific.
Tire inflator with pressure control
I plugged it into the washer inlet using one of the adapters that came with the inflator.
Give it the beans and, presto!
Pry out on the little gray tab while pulling up on the top of the cover.
I didn't take any photos during the polishing phase. As far as instructions go, it can vary depending on the condition of the lights. In general the process is:
Protect the surrounding area before starting work on the lens; I use painter's tape.
Sand off the discoloration; this may take several passes with increasingly fine sanding grit. USE PLENTY OF WATER to keep the sanding pad clear and rinse away residue as you go. Taking extra time and care during this phase will make polishing easier and lead to a better final result.
Use polish to remove fine sanding scratches and restore the glossy finish.
Add a UV protective layer.
I have a headlight restoration kit sold by 3M that includes a disc to be mounted in a drill, plus various grades of sandpaper discs, plus a 3000 grit pad, plus some polishing compound and an applicator. In the case of these lights they weren't horribly yellowed, and they didn't have any scratches from abrasion, so I started with the 800 grit disc and followed with the 3000 grit pad. Rather than just using polishing compound, I did the final step using Chemical Guys headlight restorer, which includes a UV protectant.
There's no need to buy a kit specifically for this work. There is nothing special about the sandpaper or polishing compound; you can just go buy that stuff on its own and use whatever tools and applicators you already have. The only thing I think of as special to this task is the UV protection step. Some kits include a clear coat as the final step, but I read a lot of comments about how hard that was to do correctly and so I chose to avoid it. Some people also will get PPF applied to the lens. PPF might be a good idea if you live where there is a lot of grit or gravel tossed up by vehicles. I'm planning to use the Chemical Guys product routinely and keep them looking good that way.
There are a many videos on YouTube. I used Maguires light polishing kit. I was very happy with the result. To be honest, I did practice on the kid-car headlights before the P-car's
