I have this problem on my Turbo, so I just had the Porsche Center use electrician's putty to seal all the connections so I don't get a wet headliner.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I have a new to me 2002 996 C2 6MT that I'll be daily driving for a while. I live in WA State, where it rains consistently for a decent part of the year. The car is always garaged, but will be driven in rain. It wasn't optioned with PSM. I have two questions: 1. Are there any notable points of failure for water sealing that I should inspect before driving it during rainy season? The car has been meticulously maintained and everything functions well. One of the taillights has a small crack, which I'll replace before rainy season hits. 2. Any best practices/driving tips for these cars in rain? I don't plan on doing anything dumb. The car will be getting Pilot 4S tires this week, which have performed well in the rain and cold on several of my previous P cars.

POST 3Original post

I would definitely snake all the drains and make sure they are clear. I would also recommend the Weathertech winter floormats with the deep grooves to catch and hold the water. -Someone who has lived in Vancouver/Victoria BC for 30 years...

POST 4Original post

Sunroof drains might be tricky. The drains at the rear of the cassette don't seal well to the cassette itself on my car so I get a leak between two plastic pieces that snap together BEFORE the drain hose. Even if the drains are perfectly clean my car leaks when I wash it. Annoying and I have no solution for it but it's something to wash for. If you suffer from the same problem as me you'll see damp spots on your headliner behind your sunroof that will eventually drip onto the rear seats.

I have this problem on my Turbo, so I just had the Porsche Center use electrician's putty to seal all the connections so I don't get a wet headliner. It's been 4 years now and works like a charm... -Matt

This sounds similar if not the same as a leak I had a few years ago. The plastic coupling joint where the drainage tube connects to the sunroof rail starts to leak over time as the sealant fails. Approx 3 years ago, I unclipped them, cleaned up, & applied fresh sealant. The fix was documented here: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=1549469 hth
