Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I'd like to just use HVAC aluminum tape (very sticky) but does anyone know why Porsche used foam in the first place?
Use foam such as the foam a/c filter material available

Suggestion
Not worth the trouble to go back in there, but should have used foam such as the foam a/c filter material available from HD and spray adhesive.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I ended up cutting the tube behind the center stack with a razor blade and it worked very well...it's pretty soft/pliable plastic so it's easy to manipulate out of the way.
Just curious are any of you guys seeing little pieces of foam or sponge that blows out of the air and defogger vents from time to time? What is it and how to make it go away if you have experienced it?
I've read a few threads how to address the problem, just do a search. The covering on a flap door is deteriorating and needs to be recovered. It seems there are two flap doors one for temperature and one to direct air at the feet or dash or windscreen. The one that seems to be a problem is the temperature flap, and it is accessed by cutting a piece of small plastic with a dremel in the frunk area.
As mentioned its the foam covering on the metal plate located under the cowl. It starts to come off and blow through the vents, I knew mine was completely gone because I did not get hot air. If you are mechanically inclined it's a relatively easy job if you are willing to cut one small plastic tab under the cowl to get to the flap, otherwise, the dash needs to come out. Check out the link posted in the thread, I did mine having never taken apart my Porsche before and it wasn't bad.
Can a forum member comment on the consequence, i.e. living with not replacing the foam (with duct tape) on the air box door. Does it mean fresh air all the time, recirculated air all the time, or something else? I plan to vacuum or otherwise remove the foam particles in the vents and whatever additional foam will release from the air box door. I've watched the videos of cutting into the panel behind the HVAC controller to tape the door, and concluded that work is above my pay grade. TY! /X3
My 99 (made 7/98) C2 coupe blew out the foam 13 years ago. I used a shop vac and put HVAC fan on high. It continued for awhile and then stopped. I never did anything about it. It blows AC cold air just fine and blows hot air when the heater is on. Albeit I live in Florida, but I've never noticed any difference at all. I'm leaving this one alone.
In the swamp that is Louisiana, the AC would constantly fog up my windshield since the cold air was diverted mostly to the defroster instead of the dash vents.
I ended up cutting the tube behind the center stack with a razor blade and it worked very well...it's pretty soft/pliable plastic so it's easy to manipulate out of the way. I do however have hands that look like 5 D-batteries taped to a bagel, so covering the blend door was a tight fit.
Reminds me, I've been putting this off. I did read this helpful thread ^^^ a couple months ago. Some redo theirs with new foam, some just tape over the holes. I'd like to just use HVAC aluminum tape (very sticky) but does anyone know why Porsche used foam in the first place? Is it due to sound perhaps?
Yes, sound is a problem, but not a major one.
I've had

do the repair on my car. Some of the pics in his write-up are my car.

Yes, reflected sound vs. absorbed. I used the aluminum hvac tape and noticed more noise coming through the vents. Not worth the trouble to go back in there, but should have used foam such as the foam a/c filter material available from HD and spray adhesive.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
