I pulled the airbox and serp belt off, checked the pulleys, and they mostly felt ok.

I'm going to be checking the pulleys, but this is exactly what it sounds like when you get under it.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

03 911 4s brand new engine - YouTube
I have no idea what this sound could be. I have less than 2500 miles on a brand new rebuild. I purchased the car after a complete rebuild was done on it in March of '15. It was sold to another customer and the engine detonated in the parking lot because of IMS failure. Rebuild was done, and I thought it was good to go. Now there's this clanging sound coming from the engine. It is most pronounced on the drivers side under the car. Anyone have any idea what is going on? Also, since a rebuild was just done, will Porsche back this work up? They had it sold to another person and it blew up a few days after he bought it and they bought it back from him, so i hope they'll stand behind this. Man this sucks.
Check the heat shield on that side (drivers side). It could have lost a screw and making that rattle noise. Also take the belt off and check all pulleys before you loose sleep over this.
I'll do that. I don't have the first clue about how to go about that (pulleys), but I guess it's time to learn. My first guess was some kind of rattle, but I couldn't be sure.
If it is a factory rebuild bring it back to your mechanic let Porsche fix it..
Does it go away at higher RPM? Might be a loose Catalytic converter "Brick". Put a stethoscope on the cat and see if you hear the rattle. No scope? Use a long screwdriver or wooden dowel one end on the cat other on the bone by your ear.
Possibly water pump going bad. Remove the air box. Take the belt off and turn/wiggle/spin each pulley and idler. There should be no play/rattle/squeak on any of them.

It turns to a rattle and gets drowned out by the exhaust at a higher RPM, so it could be something that's just loose. I'll do the pulley work. Thanks for the video.
I don't think there should be a clicking noise supposedly from the injectors or a the clanking which seems to NOT be a loose shied to me. If the engine is rebuilt properly and was pre qualified to be rebuilt after the first failure it should sound like a new engine as when the car was first purchased. If they sounded like that when they were new nobody would have bought one. Hopefully I am wrong about everything.
The noise sounds quite a bit louder on video than it actually is, but it's still worrying. The car didn't make any weird noise when I got it. It just started making this noise recently.
It's not a shield. It's coming from a pulley that sits in between the headers at the very bottom of the car. The noise actually varies quite a bit once you get under there.
It is not injector noise.
Sounds like an exhaust leak to me. My advice is to avoid running the engine any more and get the car flat bedded back to the place that did the engine rebuild and have them diagnose the noise and fix it.
If it is an exhaust leak it is probably do to a loose connection that probably (probably) arose from the engine R&R.
If it is not an exhaust leak, then the shop should ID the source and fix it. If from inside the engine -- doesn't sound like it is inside the engine -- under warranty.
It could just be coming from THAT direction... But I suppose you're taking the belts off per the video and checking? If so, kindly do let us know if it ends up being a bad bearing/pulley. That would be the ideal scenario!
I also agree with the others. The noise sounds too rapid to be from one of the cylinders. The best way to diagnose it is like what others have already mentioned.

Don't drive anymore. If it is the pump the impellers can hit the block, break off and get lodged in cooling passages causing local overheating and head cracking.
I confirmed that it is the water pump. I pulled the airbox and serp belt off, checked the pulleys, and they mostly felt ok. The water pump pulley has just a few mms of play, though. I started the car with the serp belt off, and no noise was present. Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it.
That was such a relief. At any rate, I talked to the guys at Porsche, and they said if there was a problem with the rebuild that they would fix it at no charge. They even helped me diagnose it on the phone. I highly recommend Colorado Springs Porsche.
If you are DIY ing your water pump, Take note of the 7 screws position as 2 of them are longer/shorter than the others and need to go back in their correct places. Hope you took a photo of where the serpentine belt goes back in place. Check the belt it might be frayed at the edge because of a wobbly pulley. No need for anything on the gasket. Do not over tighten the screws and you wont crush the gasket. Its a fiddly PITA job but do-able. Have fun.
