Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Not in SFV but there is one in Monrovia that i used about a year ago.

I generally use my own garage but for the kids who live on post or do not have a garage, it is a huge asset/benefit.

Maybe if you could meet up with some other P-car drivers that happen to be in the Military active or retired they may let you tag along and use the shop with them.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You all seem to have so much fun bruising your knuckles and bathing in hot oil, you are raising my curiousity about the experience. But living in a condo gives me no place to even wash my car let alone work on it.
I take it to a DIY carwash but are they any garages that members here have used and that rent their space and lifts and tools out...ideally in the San Fernando Valley?
John, glad to hear you are going to try this. You will understand why so many people were giving you a hard time about the $300 oil change if you try it yourself just once. And the second time goes twice as fast.
Why would you take on a DIY project and rent a garage it is backbreaking work sometimes. Wasn't that the reason why you got rid of the 996? Because of the movement/work involved in shifting it?
A bit drastic but join the military?
Every post I have ever been to with a garrison unit has self help auto center. Generally 4-10$ per day for a lift bay with tools (have to check them out, but available). they will not have a lot of Porsche specialty tools, but any basic tool including pneumatics you could want or ask for. Cheap enough to take your car there just to do the oil change. they also have programs and arrangements with part shops to get parts in while you work if you find something that needs fix/replaced. Pay at the counter, part delivered in an hour or two. All self help shops have ASE certified mechanics you can "rent" to help or do the work although honestly most of them are of little skill or value I have found and simply charge the book rate for service and not actual time.

That is the one thing I miss about being an on base DoD contractor! Ft Belvoir charges a bit more and anything beyond basic tools is extra (but like $4/hour). My first real DIY job was to do the water pump on the new-to-me e30 I just bought from my boss. I think it took be about 9 hours since I had no real clue what I was doing, but it only cost me $90! And I had someone with a clue to get help from (like when I couldn't get the stupid fan free).
No DIY shops in my area otherwise
John, joining the military is a laudable thing to do but given your age, it may be more realistic to search your area or give up the condo life. Maybe you could even buy your own basic shop close by?
John,
There's a place in either North Hollywood , or Van Nuys that's rents garage space. I believe tools are an extra charge . The phone book is your friend

Reminds me about my early photographer years back when I was in my early 20s and hot, and the models were in their early 20s and hot. There were more than a few times that I didn't pick up my camera for a shoot. Like the Gia movie bit with less aids, less fence, and we'll, it was fun.
+1 I'm retired Army and have been using the Autocraft shops since I started out as a Private, lol. I've worked on every car I've owned over the years. As stated there are mechanics there and they are sometimes helpful depending on the vehicle. But most of the cars I've owned they would not touch, i.e. Land Rovers, Porsche etc. But they do have the computers you can look up repair procedures etc. Also, it's kinda fun when I get a bunch of newby soldiers around checking out my car and I get to share stories with them about driving on the autobahn back in the day, lol.

there is a good one in Oceanside (N. San Diego)
Lots of bays by the hour, lots of tools to use. They also will provide a mechanic for $80 hr including the bay
