Not having ever done this what is the current technology for replacing the right front fender on my Guards red 996.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Got in a fender bender and now facing the dreaded repair process.
Not having ever done this what is the current technology for replacing the right front fender on my Guards red 996. also bumper cover scratch fix and re-spray.
the collision place my insurance is sending me to seems very good and is a large company here in the south.
They want to paint fender off car then blend 1/4 way back on right door, up the trunk lid.
It's an old car so I am sure the red is not perfect. this blending thing still has me puzzled.
How do they prevent over spray into the jams and fender to hood gap.
Or should I insist on just the panels painted off the car and don't touch the rest?
You will absolutely want them to blend it. If they don't it will look really bad. If you express your concerns about over spray in the gaps, I'm sure they will make sure that is addressed. I've had this done on other cars with no over spray issues.
Here is what it looks like when you don't blend paint:
I had a 2000 Chevy Blazer that they painted the front passenger fender on with no blending. I came to pick it up because they said it was done. It looked just like that picture. From 40 feet away in the parking lot I could tell it didn't match. After they blended, it looked great. 5 years later it still does.
That sounds like a plan Joe.
I am defining the work order with the shop. I think they are getting the hint I am not easy to get along with.
They might trip out when they look at the forward most area of the door hinges (yes I waxed em). I even cleaned and waxed those areas around the shock towers under the covers where nobody ever sees.
Porsche also has variations to their paint depending where the car was painted. My Artic Silver Boxster had 3 variations so a friend who owns his own shop had to paint 3 pieces of metal and clear them to see which one was the correct as they were pretty subtle in difference. Mine had the blue tint variation.
Another vote for blending. You could theoretically take a small hit in resale value, since more panels will have been painted.
Otherwise, you and your body shop will wind up hating each other, as you'll point out that it doesn't match, they'll try again, etc. etc. etc.
Anytime you paint a metal panel that's adjacent to another metal panel, you blend (unless you can blend within the one panel well). That's the right way to do it. Take before and after pics if the damage is minor. That will help with resale. If it's fixed well by a quality shop and you document it, it won't hurt the resale that badly.
Unless 996 values go through the roof, it shouldn't be a big deal. The buyer who wanted my Boxster clucked his tongue and said, "hmm...has this fender been resprayed?"
I offered to smack it with a folding chair to put it back just as it was before I had it (very expensively) repaired. He declined.
