Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
I've produced a couple aftermarket parts for 996s as a hobby which I sell through Pelican Parts and won't advertise here so as not to break forum rules. I'm now looking for someone near LA to help with development of a tasteful Porsche 996 mk1 bodykit kit in return for getting a free one for their own car.
The kit will consist of a front lip, side skirts, and possibly a small ducktail rear spoiler add-on--all made of high quality polyurethane. There are a few options out there but most are too aggressive looking for me as I want something that looks OEM. The design will be inspired by the 993 turbo S front lip and side skirts (pic below).
The requirements:
Porsche 996 mk1 non-aerokit model (coupe preferred)
Within driving distance of Los Angeles
Good paint quality
No previous front end damage (important to ensure proper fitment for other cars)
Willing to bring the car or lend it for: 3d scanning of stock car (likely near Woodland Hills, CA for 2 hrs), test fit of prototype (can be done at owner's place), and one day for installation of painted body kit and photoshoot
I would incur all the costs of painting and installing the kit through a trusted paint shop. The kit will be fully reversible in case you would like to take it off. If your car fits the criteria and you are interested in participating, please contact me at

with details and couple pics of your car.
Thanks!
Andrew
Hi Andrew, sounds like an excellent plan and I take my hat off to you. I am nowhere near you, I am in Scotland, so not practical or useful to you at this point in the proposed project. However I wanted to say that I am certain, based on first hand comment from many 996 owners I have met, that there is a definite gap in the market for subtle 'aero' upgrades for standard 996 models. Not everyone wants or likes the full fat GT3 look, in fact many of us actually like the slim, discreet narrow body look.
That said it would be a unique addition to those available in the marketplace presently to have the option of adding a splitter to the front bumper p/u. What I mean here is a genuine splitter, maybe protruding 50mm on a horizontal plane from the lower edge of the bumper, rather than dropping vertically to the ground ( as in a 'spoiler' ) as this often gives such limited ground clearance, especially in city driving and also gives a heavy/ blunt look to the styling as standard.
It would be fantastic to be able to add a subtle aero modification, giving a nod to racecar looks, that would compliment an equally subtle 'ducktail' or similar modification to the rear.
Anyway, good luck with the project and if you do get round to a splitter I will be at the front of the queue!
I have my 996 in LA. Ill do it. I sent you a PM and email. Ill lend you the car. Its currently at BBi. Got a full suspension package done. This is my car.

Hi All, thanks for the input, much appreciated. Looks like MoeMonney and I are going to try to work together on something. Excited to share the results!
@peterzoom
thanks for the suggestion. Would any other folks on here be interested in a well designed splitter that fits perfectly onto the existing bumper? I am thinking of designing a 996 gt3 like splitter (

)
that works for the regular carreras. I know you can modify a a GT3 one to fit, but it takes some work.
What I would really love to see (and would buy) is a low key "modified duck-tail" Ala Singer - that looks great lowered or deployed and gives you a little more down-force than the stock spoiler... Ok, I'm done...

Yes! Something that replaces the spoiler, rather than the whole deck lid. Extra points if the air intake grilles are metal, like you see on modified vintage 911s.

The Pinky Lai interview has some nice insight on the spoiler on the 996 and how they designed it for downforce in the wind tunnel to improve lap times.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Singer style active rear spoiler grill replacement is exactly what I had in mind. Will try to get this all kicked off soon.
