Anyone know of a shop that is reasonable in the LA, CA area? Looking to buy an 03 that needs timing adjusted. Thinking of having that done, flying out to pick it up and then driving it back home vs having it shipped and then doing the timing.
Huh? How do you know that the timing needs "adjustment"? Do you know how complex a job it is to adjust the timing? It is basically an engine out job, particularly if the wear pads are the reason why the timing is out of adjustment. Honestly, I would re-think this purchase on an 03. Sounds like trouble.
There's only 1 place in LA that I would trust my car to.
Especially if I were in another state and wanted to be certain the work was done
correctly
before I flew to LA.

They won't be the cheapest in town, but I'm sure they'll get it done right!
Ended up buying the car. it's going to hopefully be somewhat easy. Turns out the reason it was being sold is cause the tensioner pads are most likely shot. Getting cam codes. Had a friend connect my durametric I overnighted to him to it and the timing is off. it does run & drive, actually sitting at the friends house right now. Going to fly out in a week and replace the pads and then set timing. Worse case I'll have it transported back home, best case I'll drive it back over a long weekend and enjoy the drive through Utah, Colorado & Kansas.
Call August at Werkstat Porsche in Manhattan Beach, these guys work on some of the nicest P cars old and new in LA. August knows 996s he had one for a while. Prices are reasonable.
I've used Precision Motion in Colton, Ca for over 30 years. Been quite pleased. I bought my 996 last February and shortly after I brought it to them for the usual suspects. They know the 996 very well, and just did my IMS, RMS, etc....They have a "care package" for the 996.
