I checked my coolent levels and added a little bit to make sure it was at full.
Leading evidence: 'Check coolent levels and added a little bit' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check coolent levels and added a little bit' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Since I was having some internal muffler issues, I purchased some mufflers off of a 2003 C4s, had a local shop do the fister exhaust mod, and then I installed the (new to me) mufflers on my C2.

I am running now this on my car, you may need to add water a little more frequently.

Clean radiators, and maybe install lower temp thermostat

In the future will flush coolant, clean radiators, and maybe install lower temp thermostat.

Suggestion
So this is my advice, on a hotter climate you want to run a little cooler just dilute the Antifreeze so you have 33 percent concentration use distilled water.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
Looking for help understanding why my coolant temp may be up after installing the fister mod on my 996.
2001 996.1 C2-C
84,000 mi
Ownership:
1 year, 2,900mi
Oil:
Motul
Coolant:
Zerex G40 - Pink
Since I was having some internal muffler issues, I purchased some mufflers off of a 2003 C4s, had a local shop do the fister exhaust mod, and then I installed the (new to me) mufflers on my C2.
The issue I'm having is that before I never really ran at any temps above 180F, but now since the new mufflers were installed, I'm seeing temps closer to that next tick mark (which I believe is 200F).
I checked my coolent levels and added a little bit to make sure it was at full.
Would doing a coolant flush make sense here? I have not done one since owning the car for approx 1 year and 2,900 mi.
Is there anything I should be concerned about with running at this temp?
Thank You
Are these temps in stop and go traffic? Or highway speeds? Have you checked the front rads area for debris? Do both front fans come on at low speed when you press the AC button?
My 99 always gets to the last white line in stop and go traffic without the AC button depressed. Normal for my car.
I put a used set of Fisters in my car this winter after LN 180 deg thermostat and Porsche water pump last fall. It held rock solid 180 deg during the winter. Now it tends to drift a little higher which I attribute to warmer temps of the season.
I think your temp issue may be related to different metallurgy heat dissipation, retention etc. Now so coolant antifreeze is normally 97 percent ethylene glycol. Only 3 percent is additive pack. I retired from Valvoline manufacturer of Zerex. Anyway water is the best heat removing fluid, but water freezes at 0 centigrade, 32 Fahrenheit, and it boils
at 100 centigrade, 212 Fahrenheit. You have to weary about corrosion and issues with cavitation in the cooling system of the car. The most critical component is the water pump. Anyway the ethylene glycol lowers waters freezing point and raises water boiling point. So this is my advice, on a hotter climate you want to run a little cooler just dilute the Antifreeze so you have 33 percent concentration use distilled water. On real cool climates Alaska, Canada, you would do the opposite 66 percent antifreeze. For hotter climates the 33 percent concentration is more effective than the lower temp thermostat most of the time. I am running now this on my car, you may need to add water a little more frequently. Anyway in racing applications you can just run water with the additive concentrate no ethylene glicol.
'02 Tip normally temp needle is between 8 and 0, yesterday in stop and go traffic saw it creep up to the middle of the 0. It was unusual enough that I took a picture of it. In the future will flush coolant, clean radiators, and maybe install lower temp thermostat.
Its normal. You can install the low temp thermostat, but it wont change those higher temps in stop and go traffic. Only air moving across the front radiators will affect that. The last white line on my car is 102C (still plenty cool by my book).
exactly what my car does in the summer.
i have a new peirs wp, ln t-stat and 2 cfs rads. Its just what happens when your fans r set to come on around 205`
