Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Clean sensors' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check connections' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Check each wheel sensor, check the wiring and check that it is plugged in properly.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

guess i will never know the culprit, i am just glad things are back to normal with no $$$$.
first time in 7 years and i finally got a waring light on the dash. ABS failure. I was headed down my driveway, and at the bottom I have to go out at an angle and often times 1 wheel will come off the ground. at the same time i pulled the emergency brake as i did an oil change this am and wanted to have a quick look underneath before heading out. was it a combo of this that triggered it? i have a simple scanner but it shows no codes. what is the best approach to troubleshooting this.
I do not understand any part of the scenario you presented. Backing down the driveway, pulled the emergency brake because you did an oil change....uh huh. One of your wheel sensors is either broken or unplugged. Check each wheel sensor, check the wiring and check that it is plugged in properly.
i had read somewhere that wheel hop, or a pot hole can sometimes trigger the ABS light. upon exiting my drive, due to leaving at an angle, it causes tires to come off the ground. i was not sure if this may trigger it. regarding the brake, i had just done an oil change and wanted to visually inspect one more time prior to leaving. since the engine was running, and it is a slope into the street, i engaged the hand brake so my car would not roll away while i got out to look. My thought was i may have prematurely engaged the hand brake with either the tire still in the air, or still moving ever so slightly. when pulling the brake, i heard the sensor beep the first time.
i will check the connections.
My next question is if i do have a loose connection, once fixed, will i need someone to clear the error message or will it go away on its own.
thank you.
It should go away on its own. And it may have come on due to car movement with one wheel off the pavement. At least a testament as to how rigid our cars are. I know I can use the rear jacking point and lift the entire side of the car up, front and back.
cleaned all the sensors. all tested between 685 and 688 ohms. I no longer have an ABS failure light. guess i will never know the culprit, i am just glad things are back to normal with no $$$$.
"i engaged the hand brake so my car would not roll away while i got out to look"
Please don't use the hand brake to get a
"
quick look underneath
".
Find another more secure method to keep you car from moving, using wheel chocks, blocks or jack stands.
Emergency brakes
have been known to accidently release and that would allow the car to move with you under it, or close to it.
Consider the potential damage to the car or property if it was moving on it's own.
the car was parked at the end of the driveway that is 8% of slope as per code. I never crawled under the car, I simply got on all fours and peaked under to make sure no oil was dripping from the plug or the filter housing. I have been a shadetree mechanic to all my vehicles 35 years. I will not put myself in danger.
