Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My neighbor has a 2000 996 (5 chain engine). Misfires on bank 1, white smoke coming off the back like it's a smoke machine. Initial diagnosis is a cracked head. I need to do more confirmation but looks like a new head is going to be needed. Does anyone have a line on, know of, or have one for sale, naked head or otherwise?

POST 2Original post

Depends on where and how bad the crack is... It may well be fixable. These guys are the masters of water-cooled Porsche heads https://newsite.hamheads.com/2016/10...erheads-crack/ Also, the AOS (failed AOS) is known to cause clouds of white smoke as well...

POST 3Original post

Crack repairs are common.. The chan Cessnas of a cracked head forming another crack elsewhere from the repair site is a possibility. I go over this here: You Tube Anyone with intermix needs to watch this. Twice.
