Instead of Jake Raby's fix I used a Rolex Daytona for my IMS seal.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Spent several hours sitting in cars and taking pictures at a car dealer...an XKE coupe, a very original Mercedes 190 SL, a roughly treated 993, a very tasty 356 C, a Maserati Bora, and many more. When it was all over I got back in my 996 and headed onto the I-5 for the ride home. And what I like was how I felt I was driving in a classic car but with the very nice modern improvements. Perfect seating position...smooth power curve...the brakes and gearbox and steering...as I cut through the traffic the new felt mighty good. Or at least the "newer"...after all it is a 12 year old car.
Dunno Johnny, those TT exhaust tips look out of place with those 17" wheels and no aerokit IMO.
However you do seem dressed the part to be driving that thing.
Is this guy your cousin?
So what do you like to wear when it is just you and the 911 and the road?
"My favorite shoes are a pair of worn out Converse sneakers...the little toe on my right foot has worn a hole in the canvas. Add a pair of frayed Banana Republic khakis, a wrinkled oxford cloth button down collar shirt, and toss an army field jacket in the back seat. On my wrist, a fifty-three year old non-date Rolex Oyster Perpetual from the Caracas store of Serpico Y Laino."
I feel misled. Those converse appear new, and there's no photo of the watch.
Crap, I nearly forgot - Don Johnson called while you were out taking pics. He said hi.
I have to admit that I scrolled slowly down this thread, SURE that there was going to be a payoff at the end. You, Mr. Ireland, did not disappoint.
Dammit, I keep humming Crockett's Theme by Jan Hammer...

Admittedly, I dressed up like that to go to a school dance back in the day. LOL
Also admittedly, that's how I first thought I can learn driving a manual back in the day just by watching Sunny's foot action on the clutch and shifter. I found out there was more to that when I worked for Ford dealer and had to drive a customer's manual car back to the dealers. As you can expect, I kept on stalling it and someone had to come and get me and the car.
But check this out, it was a Freaking Ford Tempo Manual driven by a lady with kids. WTF?#$%#^#^ It's got to be the only manual Tempo ever made.
It's at 40sec mark. LOL

Those converse sneakers are now dead. Maybe four or five years old, the sole on the left heal was pulling away from the shoe, the inside also worn through...it was just time. Just gave the new pair their first washing before starting to wear them. I also have two white pair in various stages of use. A couple of years ago I got into running in minimalist shoes and then I realized the ultimate minimalist shoe was my converse...same as I wore in high school. The watch is just up under the sleeve of my Brooks Brothers jacket, which I'm wearing because the Hickey Freeman was in the cleaners. But it isn't the gold watch. If I have to run with the rough trade crowd at Whole Foods, I wear my street fighting watch.
Yes, by all means I want you on my side for the next bar fight...you'll beat them to death with adjectives.
Also, I suggest posing the Rolex on a passport next time. Bonus points if you have two and can leave the expired one open to some exotic locale.
Does your wife ever look at you funny as you're puttering around the condo photographing yourself and your stuff in various poses?
I miss Crockett and Tubbs. I remember when Miami Vice was still new, I read that it would not stand the test of time because it was
too
fashionably current. It would date itself very quickly.
Johnny has shown us how wrong they are. Please tell me you own a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer's and I will take back every bad thing I have said about you.
BTW...Sonny's original black California Daytona Spyder was so awesome. Remember the pilot, when Crockett and Tubbs were going to go kill Calderone and they were racing down some Miami Street, running red lights while Phil Collins'
In the Air Tonight
was playing. I actually cried when it got blown up.
Goose bumps man...goose bumps.
I remember that very well, but back then I was young and dumb and haven't acquired the kind of sophisticated tastes like Johnny has, that I still strive for. Therefore I was only sad after it was blown up until he got the replacement Ferrari.
BTW, my last Tudor, err, I mean "Tufor"...
No sunglasses. Had a 993 back in the late 90s...looking at getting another...when the prices come back down. I worked at NBC in on-air promo when Miami Vice was on. But I was in my third mid-life crisis so I didn't watch it. If people think I overwrite here they should get my new book on Kindle. They should get it anyway.
I was a teenager when that show was on and I used to watch it religiously. I lived in Germany at the time and thought "Fuuuuu**, America is so cool! Cops drive Ferraris." So much for advertising. It turns out people that love cars actually buy 12-year old Porsches, have endless discussions on what oil grade to use, and.... ya, 50 year old Rolex watches and Rolex wannabe Tudors. That's deception by Mr Hollywood on a grand scale.
Also your choice of location for the photo was equally poor !
A parking lot!
Good god John... think things through - wait till the ''Hickey Freeman'' jacket was ready ... and choose a photo locale that accentuates you...
Contraire mon frre - I was only ascertaining the complete package of what his aura would contain on said self. I, on the other hand where Chanel Antaeus as it brings back memories of my brief summer stint as a semi-professional break dancer.
Too funny! I am sure those were Calvin Klein Jeans as well.
At least Johnny wasn't wearing "Hammer" pants.
My guess is there is a Duran Duran cassette in the 996.
Alright you did it now. Break out the cardboard, lol.
Sad to say that I waited in line when Parachute pants came out and there was only one left which was one size too small but I still bought them anyways. LOL.
Duran Duran? Hmmm...I'm going with The Archies, Beach Boys, and a Creedence Clearwater CD (just in case one feels the need to "rock out.")
And maybe a (post Go-Go's) Belinda Carlisle CD.

Picture of me actually buying the jacket at Brooks Bros. Notice how handsome I am. Maybe I could become the spokesman for Pilsner Urquell... show me having a beer at a Kindle book signing and announcing a movie deal on the book. Maybe PCNA would throw in a Black Edition for me to drive to the premiere. Ceicle Taylor and Gershwin.
Who on earth takes photos of them selves purchasing clothes (or pretending doing so) with their old Nokia camera phones? I guess you must be a Tudor watch owner to do so, so all respect to you johnireland
This is exactly how I feel about the 996. Normally I like vintage cars, but they aren't comfortable to drive daily. The 996 has that light and tossable feeling that I get from vintage cars, but with all the modern creature comforts.
I had a Tiptronic C4 996 back in the 2000's and I honestly didn't enjoy it that much (the Tiptronic took all the fun out of it). The 2000 C2 6-speed I just picked up honestly feels like perfection for a DD.
I actually have no idea. It may have started with my early IMS threds. Instead of Jake Raby's fix I used a Rolex Daytona for my IMS seal. Or maybe it is my Auto Shop karma from high school.
Once you move your vanity publishing efforts from Amazon to Rennlist, you are likely to suffer some degree of abuse. I have teenage nieces (no photos, sorry Hurdi) who are less self-absorbed.
I've come across these recently:
My Life as a Middle-Aged Playboy
author unknown, published 2000, format unknown.
My Life as an Old Guy Still Hanging Desperately Onto My Life as a Middle-Aged Playboy
author unknown, published 2105 (Amazon e-book)
Ah, it's all the usual abusive banter, no harm meant.
But, Mr. Irish should check out the following thread to see the true perils of posting self-pix on Rennlist:

If I actually thought I was going to make any money I would. On the other hand, if for some unexplained reason it became some sort of Kindle "hit"... well that isn't going to happen. On the other hand if in some future millennium extra-terrestials stumbled upon a download copy flying through a cloud and I became literary version of Woody Allen in "Sleeper"...well that would be better than nothing.
