then i found a 2000 MY C2 in Blue locally, so finally got to test drive one, it was not as I imagined, the AC got warm at Idle, it didn't pull very well, the brakes were not great, I declined to make an offer, the next day the seller offered to discount the car substantially, but it had the IMS done but zero upgrades and was fairly basic spec, so i decided to pass.

Reminds me of a long-ago Maserati Biturbo* road test where the writer stated the only way to be surrounded by more leather is to step inside a cow.

It all started after a track day in a 911 a few months ago, afterwards i made a list of cars that i might use on the track and for street driving here and there as an extra weekend car, i didnt really want to stretch the budget to a 996 so i made a list of "cheaper cars" there was a few on the list, A Suby WRX, an M3 E36 or E46, for a while i was trying to buy one of two 1 series BMW a 128i Mtech 6 speed and a 135i Mtech 6 speed, but the stars never aligned, the two one series were more budget friendly for the purchase, but both would need some money spent on them just to bring them up to decent road use, and or cosmetically needed something, then the sellers were flaky, not answering messag
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, i have been talking about this in other peoples posts and asking advice here and there and thankfully the membership here has been excellent at giving freely of their knowledge, which definitely
helped me feel better about what i was getting into.

All the time i was reading up on the 996 model and looking at the classifieds on here and locally, i saw a car in Florida close to where i was going to visit, and even arranged to go see it if it was still for sale in a couple of weeks, it sold before i could make it in, well done to that man it looked to be a great car also. then i found a 2000 MY C2 in Blue locally, so finally got to test drive one, it was not as I imagined, the AC got warm at Idle, it didn't pull very well, the brakes were not great, I declined to make an offer, the next day the seller offered to discount the car substantially, but it had the IMS done but zero upgrades and was fairly basic spec, so i decided to pass.
About this time i started looking on the PCA classifieds also and saw the car, now my car for sale on there, also in Florida near where i go visit occasionally,
The cars story goes back a bit, but in 2021 it was purchased by the previous owner from BAT, and he took excellent care of the few things that could be improved.upon, as the car has had quite a bit of heavy maintenance, he did some cosmetic work, and a couple of mechanical items and some interior fixes, he was a great guy to buy from, as he is the kind of guy who wants things to be perfect, he found something else he wanted so he put this up for sale.
I arranged to meet him and to test drive the car, and i was blown away by the performance and looks of the car, and the AC blows Ice Cold even in stop and go for 45 minutes in 95 degree heat on hot concrete bridge near the Mobile Tunnel , anyone ever spent 45 minutes staring at the Temp Gauge whilst the cooling fans are giving it all she's got Captain..?
Anyway, finally the day came to pick the car up, it went very well, i then drove the car around West Palm area for the weekend, and yesterday i left at dawn and drove home to Louisiana, 832 miles 3 tanks of gas later and i was home for supper.
Pictures for your enjoyment, i'm going to go out on a limb and invite a challenge, i think this is one of the highest spec 996 Aero cars around, the window sticker from new tops out at $95,770.00, now i'm not saying that means anything, i think the smart money back then would have bought a GT3 were one available, but it is interesting, the options sticker is almost full, mostly it was leather interior options i cant imagine why they would list all those options separately but hey this is Porsche were talking about.
Imagine the conversation with the salesman, " I want Full Leather interior" ok Sir check.., do you want leather speaker grills? Ans.. if those are available then yes.. do you want a stitched leather Airbag cover Ans. errr sure yes... yes i do, do you want the Leather covered front center console? Ans.. is this a joke? i said full leather interior.. Yes Sir but that's just how they make me do it.. Ans. Look just check every box that says leather on it,.. ok? Yes Sir will do, 13 check boxes later, ...
anyway here's the pictures..
The car looks great! I really like the gauge faces. I have never seen them color matched like that. If you are in SE LA, maybe we will see each other around. You don't get a lot of Porsches down here.
Lovely. I thought I had a lot of leather bits in my car butwow.
Reminds me of a long-ago Maserati Biturbo* road test where the writer stated the only way to be surrounded by more leather is to step inside a cow.
*Coulda been a Chrysler TC by Maserati also
The Label under the hood is pretty full, the leather on the Maroney sticker options are:-
INT2 Full leather interior $3,215
E70 Leather decor PKG $2,920
SEAT2 Full Leather seats $1,490
XPA 3 spoke steering wheel in interior color leather $1,510
E74 small leather PKG $1,175
XMF Leather covered front console$485
their may be more on the label that refer to specific leather items, i would trade a couple of those for the M030 suspension and the LSD but you cant go back in time, its got an excellent spec and i'm thrilled to have it.
A previous owner did Feal coilovers so that took care of the suspension , the ride is really quite good, and no discernible body roll.
Does yours have a manual Throttle cable? Color? Picture?
apparently in the UK, the very early cars are getting a lot of interest even though they have the amber lenses, i have family there and he picked up an early Aero car about a year ago, it turns out his is a 1997 car and was one of only 14 cars
delivered in the UK in 1997, it was delivered to a well known Pop Group member Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet, he is currently doing a resto although it was in pretty good shape, he likes his cars to be perfect. mine seems to be a transistion car its production sticker is Feb of 2000, it has Egas throttle but a mechanical cable to open both hoods..
Yes glacier white with space grey leather cable car with lots of goodies IPD plenum fvd bored throttle fabspeed x pipe ohlins suspension Giro front and rear 2 piece brake set
Black metallic and natural brown is a fantastic combination- photos don't do it justice...let alone convey the amazing aroma of that FL interior.
I recall seeing this car on the PCA classifieds- enjoy every minute of your ownership, and be sure to drive it regularly!
Yes the pictures don't really portray what happens when the sun is shining directly on the paint, the car takes on a bronze hue, its really quite stunning, i do enjoy the leather interior and its color albeit a bit overdone in my opinion, the pluses outweigh the minuses, but i am pretty shocked at how comfortable the seats are, at least for me, I've had a few decent cars and i don't recall driving 800 miles and not getting some kind of discomfort after a few hundred miles, i have to say they might be the most comfortable seats I've ever driven.
