Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
Agree that it's probably a good idea for Rennlist to have 1 thread for 1 project.
Leading evidence: 'good idea' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'good idea' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace engine in my 1995 e320 wagon' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

We don't have anything fancy, but if I brought an engine, or any other car parts, into the house (new or used) she would shoot me !!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This just arrived at my doorstep. The rods are on backorder but I can at least marvel in its greatness. I'm not screwing around and also bought the Jake Raby video series. I can't wait to start. In the meantime I'm replacing the engine in my 1995 E320 Wagon. I mean, why not right? So now I have THREE engines that are not in a car.
4.0 time!
Nice shop! Working in the dining room! I was planning on doing this, but my wife beat me to it with her quilting equipment...
Good luck with all your engines.
My wife was recently away at a conference and I took the opportunity to retrofit my headlights on the kitchen table. Otherwise I would have been knifed.
That's not my dining room, it's my automotive/Lego building workbench.
Yogi-mama has given me a small footprint of room in our kitchen dining area to keep my crankcase and pistons (still in shipping box) as well as my Porsche car seats until I get my projects under control. I've already completely taken over both bays in the garage. I have GOT to get that Mercedes back together so I can get to the real work!
Yeah they were in stock when my case was ready too. Explains why as they were at least 700 more. The rods I got will be just fine, even if I go crazy and put turbos on it, which I won't.
By the time you calculate what you actually spent on this car , you would have been better off buying an automatic, convertible turbo. And this car would have been a lot faster and more fun to drive.
i didnt mean it as an insult. It should be used as a lesson. You let your audience know to a Penny what you spent on project Olaf. Well you should let Us know when this one is done what you finish spending in it. A lot of the kids that get into 996s are younger guys. The lesson to be learned here, buy a car that the owner has basically had taken card of everything because if you buy a cheap one will end you costing you a ton of money. More than likely more than the car is worth. No insult intended, the same way you teach guys and I have learned certain things from watching your channel , go ahead and teach financial wisdom. My grandfather raised 19 kids, 13 of his own
and 6 adopted, I learned from him who only had a 7 grade education mistakes in life are paid with money.
While they are certainly informative and tremendously entertaining, I haven't considered any of Yogi's videos to be an instructional video and they certainly shouldn't be considered financial lessons. If anyone watched all the videos, they've either already learned that lesson, or they won't learn it all. You got the information necessary to make your assessment so any reasonable person should be able to do the same.
This, it's meant to "instruct" people that they too can do something like this w/o spending stupid money on a dealership. As far as money is concerned, I have already done a "True Cost of DIY Repair" video where I broke down the costs of what it took to rebuild the engine in my Audi A4. I've been keeping score on the Porsche as well. But with all that being said, there's no value in buying a sorted car for a YT channel if your point is to demonstrate the ease of fixing stuff. I'm not flipping cars either, if I was I'd suck really bad at it. Once the project is complete I'm sure Guy will come back to take some pictures. In the meantime check out the last time he showed up.
You Tube
Just a suggestion... could you keep posting in one thread so people don't have to search a bunch of other threads for info? The 4.0 work you're doing interests me a bunch.
Agree that it's probably a good idea for Rennlist to have 1 thread for 1 project. When you post new videos your thread will get bumped and we will see it.
I admit I dont have a clue about the numbers or economics associated with a you tube channel. I do know that the more views, likes, subscribes that you get you are better off. Agreed that the 4.0 built should be all put in a thread by itself. No Im not doing one. Ill pay my mechanic for that but I want to learn get a good understanding off it, instead of paying for the FSI instructional videos, Ill see them here and use that money for beers 🍻, cars and biers today at the garastisi in Houston, the owner buys donuts and kolaches. Breakfast Of champions IPAs and jalapeo sausage kolaches. Plus I get to drive the turbo today.
Yogi, I don't post much anymore, but I would like to thank you for documenting your story. I've enjoyed watching your progress. I wasn't sure how your wife would react, but I see she truly cares about you through thick or thin. Are you sure you really want to sell this car once it's completed? Seems like a lot of great memories surrounding this journey( even some bitter sweet ones) with this car.
I'm wondering if he will change his mind after he drives it a while with the 4.0L.
A well sorted 996.2 with a fresh 4.0L should be pretty easy to sell, especially since a potential buyer can see to what extent he went to in repairing it.
Just wait until next spring to sell it!
