Got the MAF switched back to the original, which we still had due to finding out a previous issue was actually a vac leak and that the MAF never needed replacing.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all. So my 2002 Targa has been running really rough and throwing a P0172 System Rich Bank 1 code. Ive recently replaced the MAF and alternator due to another error. Are there common known causes for this error code? Should I pull plugs/check resistances on coils? Check resistance on O2 sensors etc? Thanks

POST 2Original post

I would be looking at a graph of the bank1 pre and post cat sensor. You want to see if they r lazy or not working.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18204622

So basically just checking the wave forms on them? Im assuming start the car, wait a few minutes for it to come off of choke, then check to see that the voltages are cycling between ~.1 and ~.8? Should the pre and post both be cycling? Or just pre?

POST 4Original post

Did you replace the MAF with a Genuine Porsche one? Fueling rich issue can be, MAF, leaking fuel pressure regulator ( 996.1 ) , leaking injectors...Fuel Saturated Carbon Canister...

POST 5Original post

Yes my suggestion was just to confirm the o2 is working properly. If they look like they r trying to send signals for adjustment and not just flat lined then u need to figure out why. P-tech covered the possible whys in his post. Good luck.

Got the MAF switched back to the original, which we still had due to finding out a previous issue was actually a vac leak and that the MAF never needed replacing. Ran the waveforms on all O2 sensors, as well as on fuel trim. Pictures posted below. See anything fishy.

POST 7Original post

To me the post cat sensors both look lazy. Mine have more of a range. Try to see if they move more if u hold 2500 rpm or ramp the trottle. U basically want to see all 4 sensors moving around through their range. U dont really want to see a pattern as they r constantly trying to get the motor to an optimal state. Were u able to clear the code and if so did it stay off for a while?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Swapped the MAF. Car seems to run a lot better. No codes for a while! I guess time will tell.
