Suggestion

There are oil additives that you would use which keep the oil on the internal surfaces of the engine, and it typically would require draining the fuel system, and putting the car on stands to take pressure off the suspension and prevent the tires from drying out etc.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 996 with 140k miles on it. IMS done, fairly good shape, gets about 6k miles per year. No track use, but not babied either, multi day road trips included. If it sits for a week, no prob. If it sits for 2 weeks, I get seeps from the RMS. If it sits for 3, it does not drive well for first 10-15 min and I feel like I hear bore scoring jet-startup-whines. So I try to get it out once a week for an hour - at a minimum. That seems to keep everything happy. Im leaving the country for a couple of years and have zero interest in selling the car. Having a friend baby sit it and want to have him drive it the right amount. Climate is Denver, but I have a heated garage. My sense is a consistent 25-50 miles once per week is the right amount to keep everything from drying out or cause more issues for me upon return. Thoughts from the crowd?

Just make sure you keep it insured and registered in case you come home for a visit

There are oil additives that you would use which keep the oil on the internal surfaces of the engine, and it typically would require draining the fuel system, and putting the car on stands to take pressure off the suspension and prevent the tires from drying out etc. just an alternate idea.

POST 4Original post

Based on experience both with proper storage, and with the best-intentioned babysitters, I strongly recommend the former. Proper storage (followed by thoughtful wake-up process) is easier on everyone-- including/especially your car.
