My plan is to eventually pull the whole thing apart, test, service and lubricate everything to restore it to working order, but I was curious as to the logic path that generates the warning light.

When I picked up my (first and only) Porsche from the Indy (after spending $8000 before I even got to use her) I saw that RED light on the dash and freaked out.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hello '99 c2 cab, trying to sort out all the little bugs. When I start the car, I get a spoiler warning light, if I roll 10 feet, it goes out, I can then pull E brake and drop the top. What is or isnt the car seeing that generates that warning light? I assume a lack of signal from a microswitch in the mechanics of the spoiler. But why does it go away when I roll 10 feet? My plan is to eventually pull the whole thing apart, test, service and lubricate everything to restore it to working order, but I was curious as to the logic path that generates the warning light.
You'll be happy to hear that that is normal. I don't know why they do it, but the spoiler light always comes on briefly when you first start the car, then goes out.
LOL! When I picked up my (first and only) Porsche from the Indy (after spending $8000 before I even got to use her) I saw that RED light on the dash and freaked out. My oldest son (and long time Porsche owner) came up, looked in the window, saw the light, laughed and said "relax pop, it's normal" and explained how the light worked. Blood pressure went down and the smile returned to my face.

Yeah, the red warning light with an arrow pointing at the engine was not a welcome sight the first time I drove my car, fortunately it was easy to find that part in the manual.
Our of curiousity, can you lower the top with the key in the lock from outside before you start the vehicle? Can you lower it with key in the ignition before starting? With the engine running have you dropped and then reengaged the ebrake and tried it again? Having the light for the spoiler come on is totally normal....not being able to lower the top without moving first is not....at least not in my experience.
